Anybody have any experience with these? How do they compare to b&w 685 or audio monitor silver series?

They are a gold standard favorite for the price. Plus, their daddy, (Dennis Murphy), frequently participates on this forum. I can personally confirm he's a good guy.

You're comparing a $250/pr speaker with those costing quite a bit more, I guess that's high praise from the get-go :) I've heard the B&W 685 awhile back and wasn't impressed at all; no experience with the MA speakers (let alone know which one you're referring to). I did build a pair of the kit BR-1 speakers the AA is based on, and I did buy some crossovers from Dennis, along with the appropriate drivers from parts-espress, which I'm building my own boxes for. The BR-1 by itself is a very nice speaker, for the money an excellent value. How you might prefer one or another who knows? Do you have either the B&W or MA speakers now?

I heard the old Silvers a while back and liked them well enough. B&W are hit and miss for me, I like some of them but not all, mostly the older ones and mostly the top models; same with Paradigm and Polk - I really only like the LSiMs from Polk and mainly the Signatures from Paradigm.

Regardless of price, I liked the AAs and though they aren't in the same price category, I do think that's a fair comparison of the price category they'd compete at.

@Dennis Murphy, a friend of mine bought a set of these a while back and has had an issue with what he describes as a "crackling sound" coming from one of them. He lives across the country from me so I've never even laid eyes on them, but I recommended them to him and just found out he's still having the same problem.

He said he talked with you a little and did some troubleshooting, but never resolved the issue and gave up. He's not very audio-centric and has limited knowledge. I'm frustrated because I know it has to be something simple. He said he tightened some stuff up, tried switching the speakers around and didn't find any loose wires. Could it possibly be an issue with the tweeter?

Thanks Buck. If you look around you'll see I've been popping up here and there. Been kinda busy lately, but still enjoying great sound and still love my system. The towers and amp finally scratched that itch!

Man, the last week or so depressed me a little because it's getting uncomfortable and I know the worst is yet to come. Bleh
