Will this be compatible with a single floor standing speaker? I want a super basic, loud cd player for my living room. I had one in the 90s that was a cd player, and one single 14" book shelf speaker. I want to do the same thing, but with a 3way like this

Are those two things plug and play? I don't want a reciever with bluetooth, I don't want it to connect to my tv, I don't want to play youtube with it. I want a simple cd player with a good DAC and a great speaker for playing my CD collection on. No interest in having more than one speaker for now. Not interestsd in bookshelf. Id like to spend 1-300 on the cd player and 4-600 on a speaker.

You need an active speaker and a way to change the 2.0 source into mono. I didn't dig thru the cd player manual but I doubt it will sum to mono. Your speaker pictured needs an amp to make it work, an active speaker has it's own amp.

Okay, great. Thanks for the information. If you had 3-500 for an active speaker, would you choose one over others?

I haven't bought any but the JBL 305/308 models get very nice comments. Why not just go stereo? I think a lot of the less expensive active monitor style speakers are going to come in pairs anyways, you can get a pair of 308s for $400 and then your cd player wouldn't need to sum to mono either....or do you just want to listen to the left or right channel alone?

Single speaker? You will also need something like this to convert the signal to mono.

I'm new here but I have been very happy (and surprised) with the full range response on my Polk Lsim 703's. They look nice in my office. This pic is without cable management :)

I have them hooked to a receiver and then connected to my laptop via a digital coax run and a cheap USB DAC. But a CD player would be great too.

I admit to not having known anyone since the transistor radio days, or when cars came with a single, dash mounted speaker that would prefer to listen to a single speaker.

Is this a thing? Mono listening, I mean? If so, why? I am curious. I built a Bluetooth box (it also had a cd player) for my son with a car stereo and a desktop pc power supply. Mounted a 10" MTX woofer and a couple coaxial car speakers all in the same box. Although it wasn't mono, all the speakers mounted so close together almost gave it mono performance, depending where it was located or how close or far away from it you were. Thing actually sounded pretty righteous for what it was.
