I own a pair of mint condition hi res series acoustic research AR 1 tower speakers built around 1999. These speakers are the ones with the Bob carver subfield amp abe the 500 watt subwoofer built in them.. My question is that I managed to get my amp out of the back of my speaker tower to be sent in for repair to an authorized repair shop. But, my question is how do I know wires I will need to hook back up to the subwoofer ? These towers also have a built crossover which I kept and did not send in for repair. Thankfully I didn't have to send in the crossover because it would be difficult to remove with glued wires everywhere inside the tower. Is there a schemtic of these towers still available somewhere ? Thanks anyone on this forum for your help.

Label the wires. Take detailed pictures of all the wired connections showing the labels.

Then, when you get the amp back you simply go by your labels and pics.

That is the problem . I didn't label my wires when I unhooked eveything from the amp. I just don't remember the subwoofer wires connection colors properly. I know one wire had a black stripe on it and the other one did not. I am assuming the black wire means negative terminal. I just don't want to hurt anything because I have taken excellent care of these speakers since 1999, and this is the first problem I have had with either of them. thanks for any help. I may have to call someone when I get my amp back to make sure I hook up my wires correctly. There are two wires that went to the crossover board and two wires that went to the subwoofers. Although , I just reached my hand inside the fiberglass to feel around to unhook the sub. That is what scares me about rehooking up the 15 inch subwoofer .

Well, take apart the 2nd speaker to see how it is connected. Lesson Learned?

Otherwise you may find a schematic or ask the repair shop to help you out.

If you just felt around to disconnect it, then you have no idea how it was hooked up to begin with.

Hopefully they can set you straight. I promise you, it wouldn't be the first time that I have had to take apart a working unit to figure out how to put the broken/repaired unit back together. That's when it's nice to have a pair.
