Need help matching Receiver with Speakers!

So I've just bought myself a decent record player/turn table and am now looking to set it up with a decent sound system (receiver and speakers). I've already done a lot of research and In terms of price meets quality I love the Klipsche rp-150m's which are rated at 75 watts with a 300 watt peak and 8ohms, and also based on quality for money I'm leaning towards the Cambridge topaz sr20 receiver rated at 8ohms and 100watts. Now although they both seem like really good pieces of equipment by themselves I'm finding it hard to wrap my head around compatibility between speakers and receivers, can anyone tell me if the receiver and speaker combination that I just mentioned along with a pro ject debut record player is a compatible and quality setup, and if not what similar products can you recommend?

Cheers!

Should be fine. Cambridge's amps are nice and are conservatively rated.

Have you heard the Klipsch already? I'd advise more funds go to the speaker side than the receiver. Speakers are the single largest factor in your sound quality. Bookshelf speakers is a requirement? If so, I'd strongly suggest looking at the Philharmonic Audio Affordable Accuracy speakers.

A case where less money gets you more.

I think I will be picking up a Pro ject Debut next year as well.

I'm definitely after bookshelf speakers and I'm willing to drop up to $800-$900 (AUD$) on a decent set of speakers. How's the quality of the philharmonics compare to other high end (audiophile) standard speakers? Because they seem extremely cheap compare to other high end speakers I've researched!

Cheers for the help!

Look at the other offerings from Philharmonic :) These are based on an inexpensive kit speaker and have been reworked by Dennis to offer far more performance compared to the price. So yes, they look a little cheap, but speakers are about what you hear. Shipping from US might kill that benefit though.

What other speakers are you looking at? You first need to go listen to some and get an idea of the type of sound you like

Cambridge offers speakers as well - the SX-60 might work, but not sure how much bass they can provide. Wharfedale Diamond 10.2 or 220 might work as well.

Alright I'll definitely look more into the philharmonic range, thanks for the tip.

I've also been looking at the Cambridge audio aero 2, Elac BS 73 and the focal chorus 705.

I'll have a look at those others that you've suggested as well!
