Is this still a good subwoofer? I'm looking at replacing my subs but if I only replace my Velodyne, that'll be a big help. I'm looking at either the SVS SB-1000 or PB-1000. If I keep the LFM-1 then I think the PB-1000 will be a good companion. Thoughts? My room is about 1440 cu.ft. and opens up to a kitchen (on the left) and stairs going to the second floor (in the rear).

I have an SB-1000 and a used to have an LFM-1 EX. An SB-1000 can't begin to keep up with an LFM-1 EX and doesn't have the low end extension. I definitely would not pair an LFM-1 with and SB-1000, and you should stick to larger ported subs.

For another sub to consider in that price range, also look at the RBH I-12. Or for a little more, the Rythmik LV12R.

Thanks. So the PB-1000 it is then. I'm going to go with SVS because I skipped that brand when I initially bought my Outlaw and they've been intriguing ever since.

My guess it that your LFM-1 should have more output capability. So put the PB-1000 closer to you if that works out so that it doesn't have to work as hard to keep up :)

However, I'd definitely do some comparisons between the PB-1000 and your Velodyne. Could be the PB-1000 is not much of an upgrade. And since SVS has free return shipping, no reason not to send it back if you don't find much difference.

If you already own the Outlaw LFM 1 why not just get another? Found one for $235! Here is a link:

My room is exactly the same size as yours. I used to own dual LFM Pluses and loved them. Dr. Hsu had a big hand in the design. I would not try to mix and match with subs if it were me. Dual LFM 1's in that size room would be splendid and much easier to integrate inmho. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the link. I thought that a new one would be the trick but I think your idea is pretty good!

I am NOT saying mixing and matching does not work. It can work fine, but it is more difficult to integrate two different subs than two identical subs. Of course, placing both subs equidistant from the listening position will make it much easier to do so regardless if they are identical or not. The LFM Pluses were fantastic! Good luck!

Phil

I looked for an LFM-1 and those things are hard to come by. Decided on 2 of the PB-1000's and selling both my current subs

I fully understand. But, it is good you got two identical subs. It will be easier to integrate into your setup. Congrats on the purchase!
