Hi,
I have two receivers, a Sansui 7070, and a Harmon Kardon hk350i. Haven't used either in years. Am moving, and can't keep both. Any opinions?

Thanks,
Cathy

Well, first, I'd test both. If both work fine, I'd give preference to the Sansui. The Sansui is 60WPC and the Harmon Kardon, 20WPC. The Sansui will give you more overhead. Plus, the Sansui has those super pimp mechanical VU meters.

I'm not sure that either would be considered highly collectible though. I don't see a lot of value in antique receivers that aren't tube, Marantz, McIntosh, or similar. I'm not much of a picker though, so I could be mistaken.

I agree with everything you have to say about that.

Thanks for selecting AH and Welcome. :)

What are your plans for the future with one of them just casual listening? Or something more serious?
Yes, that Sansui would be nice for FM reception if it still works.

HK certainly made some nice units, but that is a lower level HK vs one of the higher level Sansui's before Sansui (or buyer) decided to milk their good name for profits while making cheap junk (late '80's I believe).

Definitely test them both and maybe open them and look for charring/contamination/leaks/corrosion. The science was there to make high quality receivers, but they did not yet have a total lock on what materials might end up having problems with long term corrosion.

Thank you for your replies. They are certainly helpful. I'll keep the Sansui.

I don't have any serious plans for it, but I'll keep the Sansui.

Just out of curiosity, what would be considered "serious plans?"

Throwing it through your ex's car window? Throwing it through your ex? Bartering it for meth? Donating it to the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay? Developing a relationship with it?

He juxtaposed "something more serious" against "casual listening". I think he was asking if you had specific intentions such as setting up a vintage phono system, or (probably more relevant) if you need some suggestions on speakers, etc.

Well, I was thinking more on the lines of either a high quality stereo setup with great speakers and or a home theater setup with a 5 or 7 channel setup and subwoofer.

Ok, then, yes, I would like something more than just listening to the radio. I have a pair of DCM TF1000s.

Don't have an ex. Don't do meth. Can't afford the shipping. I have a relationship with it. Bing, bing, bing, we have a winner!

Well, if you only want a 2 channel setup, you have it. Checked the speaker specs, not a very sensitive speaker but the amps will do if you are not blasting it.
I presume you listened to this speaker, how do you like it?
