Hi All
I have bought a house that is being built. I want to set up a home video sound system with speakers in key rooms and a AV receiver input and output in a central location. I do not have a clue about this kinda stuff and am not technical at all. So any help would be welcome. Just need to know what kind of cables do I need to use from the smart tv to the AV receiver - co ax, HDMI or internet cables . Any other (easy to understand ) advice would be appreciated

My electrician will be doing the wiring in the next few weeks

Thanks

Lizzy

Well I'd start with an exact goal first. Then an exact budget. Then you have several questions you need to ask yourself ie; how do I want to control all of this, are any of the areas for critical listening or home theater, do I want in ceiling speakers in the areas that are background music, do I need an installer or can I do it myself. Your initial post is just to vague for advise to be given. The only thing from the OP is that you have an electrician helping with work they typically don't have any experience in.

I would urge you to think carefully about that. Do you really want music in one room, but you have to go to another room to control it? And do you want to be limited to the same music in each room, rather than the ability to have soft background jazz or classical in a conversation room AND kid music or sports in another room?

You can do what you mention... have one central source and speakers in multiple rooms with only volume control in those rooms. Or you can have separate systems in each room.

The separate system route sounds expensive and complicated, but it can actually be less expensive, simpler, much more flexible and higher quality. (I think almost everyone here would recommend separates. The "whole house" audio thing sounds like a better idea than it really is.) Either way, you can have some in-wall wiring done during construction.

Think about it... let us know what you decide and we can dive into the details to provide you our best suggestions.
