Hello, i´m new in the home theater world, so please a little patience will be apreciated. I just bought a Yamaha receiver, model number RX-V581. Before this receiver i owned a Technics SA-AX530 (1999)and worked just fine with my 5.1 speaker set up.
Here´s my problem. With my brand newYAMAHA, all movies i download that support DTS, just sound 2.0, while with the Technics receiver, i would get 5.1 all the time.
I guess the question is, how do i get to listen DTS with my current YAMAHA receiver??

Check your settings, does the player decode or the receiver? Make sure your avr does the decoding if capable, ie sources to avr send the info and avr decodes it. What is your connection hdmi or optical / digital

What specific gear are you playing the downloads through and how is it connected? There is 2.0 DTS as well so you need to check the source as well as the player to see what you've got (and you could matrix it into 5.1 if you want).

It´s an external hard drive, connected via USB. I´ve always watched movies this way and got 5.1....

Thanks for replying. The connection is HDMI, not a clue how to make the avr decode though ..

The external hard drive is connected directly to the receiver via usb? Or to a computer via usb then the computer to the avr via hdmi? Did you change any necessary settings in the computer for the new avr connected via hdmi?

On your old avr was it native or was your avr set to upmix it? Doesn't your current avr have a mode to check information for what is being input?
