How Much THD Is Bad?

I totally agree with the outboard dac ideas. Even disconnecting the power supply from my mac book pro makes a difference if I run out of the onboard audio for noise.

On another note, I use a lot of Crown XLS 1000 and 2000's in installs for outdoor speaker systems and I use an ART clean box pro which seems to really help with driving the inputs from a single ended source.

With the new crowns xls series and the selectable input voltages they play very nice with avrs, preamps, and intergeated amps.

Not the most timely addition to a thread, but I don't see the problem with the Yamaha receiver you are talking about.
