It will be interesting to see how soon the 3.5mm connector disappears from the iPad. Lots of businesses (including restaurants) around here use iPads with these card swipe systems. Rare do I see the operation that uses a phone.
The case for saving real estate is not as compelling with the iPads.

My guess is that won't happen right away, you don't have real estate issues and you are right a lot of companies use the IPAD as the POS (Point of Sale). There are a large number of companies in the IT industry that focus that as their key device. That being said, whats to stop them with coming out with a bluetooth or wireless alternative to the 3.5 mm connector

Wow! I wonder if anyone really did this!
Just because someone commented below the video that they destroyed their iPhone doesn't convince me. I could see posting such a comment just goofing off in the spirit of the original video prank.

In any case, if they had the money to buy an iPhone and lacked the sense to question this video, I guess they are bound to get screwed over one way or another.

Here is a pretty good video discussing the no 3.5mm jack decision. It seems well researched and gets very specific on what was done with the extra real estate.
The author's speculation is that real estate was probably the main reason.
As someone who will probably never own an iPhone, I thought it was reasonably impartial. If you are a extreme iPhone fan, you may feel like he was biased against your beliefs.

Ok, so I broke my word and jumped back in here. So my comments to @KEW - I thought it was somewhat educational video. Some of technical details around "reason 2" were unknown to me before, and since the battery size was increased it does support apple's argument, at least partially.
btw: here's a video of lighting adapter disassembly - probably NSFW if you get offended by watching completely exposed circuits or someone forcefully violating warranty ...

It is all up to the user, but to add new features, larger battery, better camera, I am ok w/the trade-off of using the 3.5mm jack adapter. I only own a pair of Bluetooth earbuds for working out and the momentum 2.0 Noise cancelling headset when I travel, so it is not an issue for me, but everyone will be different.

The water resistance is kind of iffy, but I also don't think its fair to compare to Samsung, because its not apples to apples it's Apples to Samsung

Google's next model the PIXEL should be launching in a few weeks from what I have read. That being said, I have not been too impressed from what I have read on them up to this point. Other than the 10% bump in performance going from a Snapdragon 820 to 821

Not quite. 6P had 810 which in best case was still power hog and had to be tamed (clocked down) often to prevent overheating. Nexus 5X had it's lower performance and power chip - 808 - I have same one in my LG G4. The ram is going from 2-3gb to standard 4gb. It will also have IP53 rating - basically dust and a bit of water splash proof. Screen sizes will bit a bit smaller, but have same resolution as before.

Other changes are ether minor or not leaked yet (if any). Software changes should be more noticeable from Android Nougat (aka N aka 7) and inclusion of Siri's equivalent - Google Assistant. Given than Google, not Apple, has the authority on AI and human translation/neural network based, I expect this to be interesting.

You are correct it was an 810 Snapdragon, they must have released it right before the launch of the 820. So it has the lower end andreno 430 GPU as well.

• IP53 is very weak by todays standards given that Samsung, Apple and others have gone with waterproof, I consider it pretty much worthless.
• I think Google is light years ahead of Siri already, and even have the Google APP on my Iphone 7 Plus
• Decrease in screen size is a little disappointing, 5.5 to 5.7 is noticeable as I have felt that from switching from my 5.7 note 7.
• Hopefully its a little more durable that the 6P as my IT guys and the internet can attest to, was not very good.

• HTC is supposed to be making these phones, I really liked their M one 7 and 8, so I expect more in the build quality.
• The Latest OS head start is good, and plain vanilla interface is nice and simple
• No Camera Upgrades is disappointing, but more may be revealed October 4th.

Out of new release Android devices the LG V20 looks much more interesting at this point, but it has no dust or water protection certification and does not use an AMOLED Screen.

I have had no issues with battery, overheating or poor performance with my 6p it's actually faster than the Note7 was for me in general use. Though not enough to really matter.

The main issues are the side keys being easily pressed unintentionally. Poor gps performance compared to the Note7 which was incredibly accurate for my use. For me GPS is a big deal since I'm a runner and I like to use Strava to track performance. The 6p is much less buggy and has no reception or getting back on the network issues like my Note7 did either.

Nougat really doesn't seem that different to me, but I'll admit I never use the voice stuff.
