What receiver should I purchase for my speakers?

Hello everyone, I'm not very audio savvy so I figured I would get some suggestions here. I plan to purchase two Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeakers but I'm not sure what I should purchase to give them enough power? I was looking at the Yamaha RX-V579 but I'm not sure where that falls into powering them? too little, too much, just right? I would prefer to keep it under $400. I am also pairing these speakers with a Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12" Powered Sub.

What spl are you trying to achieve? The Polk sub is mostly a waste of time/effort. Get a better sub...

Use speaker sensitivity/impedance plots for a better indicator on amp/power needed

It doesn't really matter. No "power" will make them sound good. You should reconsider your choice of speakers. If you're set on these, get the very cheapest used AVR you can find at a yard sale.

SVS Ultra Towers...:)
Polk PSW505 12...:( which he returned to the store, it was a insult to his to his 2.1 setup along with several of my CD's he ask me to bring over...

You actually have heard the Polk loudspeakers (and bonus points if someone setup the Polk sub properly for audition)? Keep in mind your own room will have a great influence and what you heard at the store may not translate at all....
