Hello, iam currently using a Yamaha htr-6130 receiver and was looking into getting a setup for either dtsx or atmos just not too sure which would be more beneficial since I don't have to high of a ceiling, but what would you guys go for in terms of atmos or dtsx? Also I would like to find a package that I can buy instead of buying everything separately.
Thanks

The upgrade would be for both, not one or the other unless your buying a first gen atmos avr with no dtsx upgrade.

Ah ok so what avr has both features? And what kind of speakers if needed should I get?

Ok let's slow down. What's your budget? What's your room size and can you do some in ceiling speakers?

I don't have a budget in mind and I could install ceiling speaks, but do I need to do that if I just used the dtsx once it's out? I currently just have the usual 5.1 setup at this moment

This is always a struggle to get info from almost every new member who comes here looking for information. There is a huge community of helpful people here willing to jump in, yet it's like pulling teeth out of a cat trying to get all the information asked for.

Room size and shape, pictures and/or sketches help tremendously.
Listening/viewing positions: How far or close are you to the screen, any room behind?
Current equipment list...all speakers, subs, receiver, amps, pre-amps, and sources.
Max budget...there's got to be something as 95% aren't going to drop mid 5-figures or more.
Goal: Where does the current system fall short and where would you like to get?

With these things known you get better responses.

Ya no doubt..... I was giving answers to questions that were asked... As for all the info that you mentioned above would of been taken care of and therefore I wouldn't be posting in the hence "newbie section" now what I mentioned in the other posts is all that I have and the area that iam in is the standard living room size and I haven't taken measurements, but if needed I can.

You did state your receiver in your first post. In the 7th post, you mentioned 4 speakers by name, though stating "as for sub and center I have the basic ones that came with the receiver." That means absolutely nothing to anyone who doesn't own one, we'd have to go Google what the obsolete Home Theater In a Box set shipped with. It's probably cheap junk but who are we to assume?

There is no such thing as "the standard living room." Show me one. Some folks have a 10' x 12' living room, others have a 20' x 25' living room or bigger. And still no budget. Fascinating dearth of information.

Good luck.

the more info you give, the better replies you're going to get. generally speaking, without a budget it's pretty much impossible to offer suggestions. you can spend hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands or even *gulp* hundreds of thousands. there are folks in all of those budget ranges here.

it can be intimidating and sometimes the replies here are a little gruff, but I assure you everyone's heart is in the right place. we all want you to get the best bang for your buck.

from what little I see, you're probably going to want to timbre match your center channel and replace your subwoofer, but it's hard to tell without knowing what you have. sometimes package deals aren't bad. as far as atmos or dtsx goes, you'd use the same type speakers, but you have different options for placement and you need a receiver. again, suggestions can range from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars.

room size and dimensions help in deciding what type and how big a system you might require, depending on exactly what you want. are you casual listening, critically listening or rocking the neighborhood? package deals are convenient, but not always the best route.

When people don’t give a budget, I just assume theirs is unlimited and suggest $30,000 speakers, etc. :D

And let's not forget neighbors, or perhaps even the old couple in the apartment below. Few (or none) of the kits that make up a HTIB array come with much of a subwoofer and a good one or pair makes up more of the total system than almost any speaker. Timbre matching a center speaker from such a kit is also not usually easy, nor worth the time.

Folks here can and have put together surround and Atmos systems for as little as $500 (used stuff) to many thousands of dollars. There is no info on the goal here.

I am looking to get something no more than $5,000 as I would like to get the best setup possible for a home theatre and if there is something that I can for a good price as I want to start from scratch than that would work. Thanks for all of the replies that were given already

Whoa calm down... Ya they aren't that great, but I don't have anything else to change them up with and I want to start from scratch and that's getting new speakers and a reciver to suit them I am looking at spending no more than 5,000. And the room is 20x15

Let's start with you doing so homework on atmos and dtsx . The speaker layout can / is quite similar if not identical

Well not knowing the whole picture, I'd say start with a complete upgrade. If that 5k covers it, I'm sure some suggestions will be available
