Hey I'm trying to order together a PA system (I guess) to play live shows. Weddings, parties, bar mitzvah's whatever. But also would sound really great for reggae/ reggae dub and hip hop/rap turntablism. Suggestions? I was thinking about going with JBL's.

JBLs are solid live sound systems. The QSC K series would also be good. You will need some good subwoofers for reggea, dub, hiphop, etc. If these shows won't be large venues, and you want to save some money, look at the Behringer XL215, good inexpensive speaker.

A PRX735 assumes you will not be using a subwoofer, it is considered a full range speaker. I wouldn't get the PRX735 with the intention of adding a sub. I would get a two-way speaker and a powerful sub. One monster sub you can get is this one from JTR. You have to provide your own amp but that thing has been measured to be a beast.

What would you recommend for A two way?

That depends one what kind of venues you will be setting up in, and what your budget is. There are lots of good choices out there, but you need to get something that is suitable for your application and budget.

I was thinking of sinking $2500-$3000. Venues from 40-50 people to 200+ auditorium style places to big house parties. And like I was saying weddings or what not too.

here is a possible system for you:

JTR Orbit Shifter Pro
Amp for the Orbit Shifter
Behringer Eurolive speakers

That is a system with a heavy emphasis on bass capability. The speakers are fine, very good for the price, and should do the trick for large parties and also small auditoriums, and the sub is a monster and will be felt for sure. If you really want to do a good job, read this carefully! Since that book is available online, you have no excuse for screwing up. Do your homework on this, and you will be throwing kick ass parties.

One more thing, protect your ears if you have to work next to this system while its playing. It will cause hearing damage otherwise. Use 30+dB rollup type ear plugs.

i was underestimating how much I was going to have to sink into a subwoofer. Say my budget was $4000-5000?

At the $4-5k point I might upgrade the speakers. I might be looking at QSC K12s. I think they would be more durable and reliable than the Behringers. I doubt you would ever need more sub than the Orbit Shifter. Keep in mind that accessories for your system will add up as well: cables, stands, cases, etc. Here is a pretty good package for the price.

Something else to keep in mind is the Orbit Shifter is one hell of a subwoofer. You might be perfectly happy with something a bit less, something like this. It will not dig as deep or get as loud though.

Also remember to learn how to set such a system up properly. Read that JBL book! A properly setup $2k system will sound a lot better than a improperly setup $200k system.
