The Polk PSW404 comes with a 10" woofer and 200 watts of continuous power and the Velodyne DLS4000 with a 12" woofer and 200 watts of continuos power.
The Velodyne sub is much bigger (Velodyne 18"x15"x19,5") than the Polk
14 5/16"x 13 5/8" x 16 1/2").

Is this possible? Can I get the same output from both subs, knowing that Velodyne has a bigger structure and bigger woofer??????

HELP!!!!

The Velo is the better sub, no question. What's your price? If it's close to $300 go with the Velo. If it's over $400 (which it probably is). Look at SVS or Hsu.

I have never heard one Polk sub that was any good, so the Velo would be the pick of the two. Definitely check out SVS (PB-10) and HSU (VTF-2, STF-2).

Why?

Velodyne is bigger in size, in both the struture and the woofer, why is it that they have the exact same continuous power?

Thanks for the advise

Every design is different. The Velo may be more sensitive so it requires less power to give the same or better SPL with the same amount of power.

It has to do with the efficiency of the driver. Also, with a larger enclosure you can get more output with the same ammount of power.

The one linked above at Vanns is for the 10inch, hes looking at the 12inch.

The velodyne with destroy the polk. Better extension, SPL, and build.

How much is it? HSU and SVS equivilents (price) will perform better.

Bah, now you guys got me wanting something else...............

I can get a Velo DPS12 super cheap, is that going to out do my PSW505?!
I've only heard the DPS10 so I don't know what the 12 can do!

I hate being paranoid.

That's the best Polk has to offer until the PS1000 comes out this month, but...the Velo DPS10 will go down to 20hz at 99db (with distortion) and will hang with the 505 above 30. If you've done an A/B and still like the Polk then don't worry about it. The DPS 12 will go lower and louder, but will be very similar to the 10.

You might wanna change "with distortion" to "29% distortion". ;)

Don't worry, the velodyne's are still great subwoofers, were just trying to save ya a buck :)

There are NO SVS dealers, they sell direct. There are a few HSU dealers here and there, but still very uncommon so you won't likely find one; they also deal more or less direct.

I have the PSW404 (collecting dust). It is an acceptable sub for music, for home theater it does not have enough extension or output in my room (22x20x8). I would recommend the Velo. I'm willing to let mine go for 100$ if anyone wants to come pick it up.

Edit - I saw a post regarding build quality, the Polk is top notch in that category. Polk's subs may not be the best value or provide the best performance but are built very well.

I had the free 202 that I got when I bought my LSis. I'd agree that the sub is well built, but it doesn't really matter how well built it is if it doesn't perform. It was free, so I figured I could try it out for a while in another system. It did add some oomph to the 7s, but it struggled to fill even a medium sized room. I sold it pretty quick.

Ahh geez, back to my confused state. I was all getting set to get the Outlaw LFM-1 woofer and now I'm having second thoughts after reading this thread. I noticed nobody brought this sub up in the conversation. I do notice that the SVS keep coming up in posts.

I would have to disagree, I have the Polk PSW 404 and I love it. I got it through the scratch and dent through crutchfield , so i got a good deal. Now don't get me wrong those subs mentioned here are a good sub... I chose polk cuz the rest of my speakers are Polk... on the other hand my dream sub would be the Paradigm signature servo:eek:...just so i can rattle my apartment apart.. they junk anyway
