Routing all video signals through TV so I can use minidsp 2x4 with optical out

So as my name suggest I am new to this whole world and I am really trying to get a good starting set-up.
Receiver: Yamaha aventage rx-a860
Front L/R: Paradigm Monitor 7v.2
Front C: Paradigm CC 370 v.3
Subwoofer: Klipsch SW112
Rear: Definitive Technology Mythos Gem
TV: Sony KDL55W800C

My main question is if I run my Bluray player, ps4, computer, and cable box through my tv and then use an optical out to connect it to a minidsp 2x4HD so and then connect that to my receiver will I lose sound quality? I want to use the 2x4 so I can import EQ data from REW. I want to do this because I am not the best at understanding REW information I have watched videos and such but I am just getting started, might also be difficult for me because I have not gotten a mic yet and have not run REW in my own room... My main goal of using REW is helping me with bass management.

I know that was big digression I just thought I should explain where I am coming from.

TLDR: If I hook my video sources up directly through my TV will I see a major loss in sound quality? Currently I have it set-up to output PCM.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, you will not get the best sound that way.

Run everything to the receiver, and the receiver to the TV. Once set up, the only button on the TV remote you should need is the on/off button. Look at the TV as the video equivalent of a speaker.

Okay that is what I was afraid of. Do you have any suggestions of how I could implement REW into my setup? Just use the Yamaha EQ? I have not been to impressed with YPAO

The only way you could use it would be to have a receiver with preouts and put it between the preout and external power amps.

As TLS mentioned, you’d need pre-out and main-in connections to connect the mini to your main channels – either that our outboard amps. But even then you’d only be equalizing the L/R speakers. The A860 should have a pretty decent parametric EQ on board that will work with all channels, not just the L/R. It should be more than sufficient for your needs.

You can still use it for bass management, after you get a measurement mic, just put the miniDSP between the sub pre-out and sub. Then run YPAO afterwards, should be better than what YPAO can do by itself, particularly with multiple subs.

Do you think the mini DSP would be worth it for just one sub?

I could counter with why do you think one sub is enough? :) With YPAO yeah I'd still use a minidsp with a single sub....

Haha I wish a second sub could work. Thanks everyone for the input.
