Hi,

Have a Pyle PP444 preamp since turntable output volts real low and therefore no volume.
All hooked up now but when I increase volume sound developes a rumble. All connections are good since all other inputs are fine.
The only thing I did not do is use the ground screw on preamp. Is this the problem?

Thanks

Is this a hum or a rumble. If hum you need to connect the ground screw, which I would recommend anyway.

If it is rumble, then either your turntable is in a location where it picks up acoustic feedback, or you have a lousy turntable.

What turntable are you using?

It's highly possible that the rumble is coming from the turntable. Rumble, along with wow & flutter, are common ailments of that format.h

You want to keep the TT as far away from the speakers as possible and never, ever put the TT on the speakers or on the same pie e of furniture as them. That will aggravate that condition.

Does your system have a subwoofer too? Does the subwoofer have a rumble filter?

Yes I have a powered Polk sub woofer.but 6 feet from turntable
Audio Technica turntable
Yes being on tv stand next to Polk tower speaker was causing rumble when volume increased. Will ground the preamp asap.
Still get very little treble out of playback New stylus has been installed.
Maybe I'm spoiled by cds...

Yeah, you might want to try to shut off the sub and see if the rumble goes away or gets to be less. What I am talking about is NOT the SW interacting with the TT, but rather the MOTOR from the TT getting amplified and causing the rumble.

You still haven't made it clear if we are really talking about "rumble" or "60Hz Hum". That is key info to correct your problem.

Did you set up your tracking force, etc, correctly or at all on the TT?

The ground wire being connected or not connected won't cause your problem.

As for the lack of highs, it could be the cartridge not being aligned properly or the phono preamp itself. Pyle stuff isn't too well regarded here. You get what you pay for sometimes.

After I added a pair of DEFTECH Studio Monitor 65 speakers, and an additional subwoofer (DEFTECH Pro Sub 800, for a total of 2 subs), and when I played some vinyl LP's, the speakers would rumble and practically vibrate off their pedestals! So I found a new use for an old Auralex acoustics subwoofer base. Problem solved. Curiously I never had this problem with one sub and a pair of DEFTECH Studio Monitor 55's.

Turntable: Marantz TT42, automatic, belt drive, moving-magnet cartridge
Turntable pre-amp: Cambridge Audio Azur 651P
