I have a Yamaha Aventage CX-A5000/MX-5000 combo. I was short on the budget so I first bought 2 front presence speakers and a month later then the 2 other for the rear presence position. When running the YPAO calibrate mic just recognize 9 positions but the rear presence one ( 10 & 11 )
I double check the speakers cables and they are fine. Some command must be apply to the pre-amp ?
Thanks for any advise could I get here.

According to the manual:

When zone3 output is enabled, the rear presence righ/left channel output is not available to the main zone. I am not sure if that's the reason in your case but check that you didn't have zone3 output enabled just in case. In any case I don't think the CX-A5000 do Atmos, the A5100 does.

CX-5100 do Atmos, CX-5000 do front & Rear presence speakers ( 11 output ) Trust me I have both.
Zone 3 is off, still not finding the problem.
Thanks for reply worth a lot !
Best regards.

That's what I said too, that the A5100 does Atmos but not the A5000. In the thread title you mentioned Atmos but your issue seems to be with the A5000, so I wasn't totally sure which model you have. Sound like you have both?

There is one more thing to check, that is, the BAL/UNBAL selector switches at the back of the MX-A5000 power amplifier. Perhaps by chance you have had the last two channels set to BAL while the other 9 set to UNBAL or vice versa. Obviously if you are using say UNBAL RCA then all of them have to be set to UNBAL.

Since you have already confirmed all speaker connections are fine, so if the connections between the preamp and the power amp are also good then there I would suggest the quickest way to eliminate any hidden incorrect setting is to do a factory reset. By resetting the unit to factory default condition, unless the unit is defective (highly unlikely), YPAO should recognize all 11 channels.

One question though, does the CX-A5000 has a speaker configuration setup screen where you have to tell the unit whether you have those rear presence speakers, or it detects the preamp to amp to speaker connections automatically? The manual does not seem clear about this.

You are pretty close to solve this. All 11 speakers set to UNBAL position using RCA plugs on the back of the MX-5000 unit. How do I go to factory reset ?
Above all thanks for keeping the follow up.

According to page 124 of the owner's manual, it should be in the Advanced setup menu where you can select "Initialize all" (on page 126). I hope owners of the CX-A5000 will chime in soon. I am familiar with Marantz prepro but not Yamaha's.

I do think a factory reset, i.e. initialize all, should do the trick.

I went to page 126 Restoring Default settings ( Initialize ) step by step but when touching Info to start the procedure nothing happen. I think I must take it to an Authorized Yamaha Dealer. Thanks for all the help.
