We were really impressed with Denon’s new AVR-X6200W receiver and it's flexibility in setup options. The AVR-X6200 features the latest in 3D HD video and audio technologies including Dolby Atmos with up to 7.1.4 or 9.1.2 (with additional 2 channel amplifier) and is DTS:X ready with a firmware update. Thanks to its 11.2-channel processing capability the AVR-X6200W offers a huge amount of flexibility.

Let's not forget video with HDMI 2.0a compatibility to support the pass-through of HDR content as well as 2.2 copy protections on all HDMI inputs and outputs. Denon has you covered to handle ALL the latest in HD audio and video with the AVR-X6200W AV receiver.

Thanks, Gene. Looks nice. However, I run 7.2, and have no plans to add any channels. Plus, my X4000 still works fine, thank you very much. When the X4000 dies, I'll likely look at another 7-channel Marantz or Denon top shelf model.

I am starting to get confused by D&M's model and pricing policy, this looks almost spec for spec with the Marantz 7010 with more Watts for the same $$.

Don't be too confused, I think basically X5200W >= Marantz SR 7009, i.e. the 5200 is a little more than the 7009 but not by much.

X6200W = Marantz SR 7010

The X6200W seems to be just an updated version of X5200W that does not support HDCP 2.2. It seems that Denon launched the X5200W a little too soon and did not wait for HDCP 2.2 but all the X4200W and X3200W did. Now they cannot launch a X5300W. I suspect there won't be a X5300W and they will go straight to X6300W but of course I am just guessing. :D

Gene-Its very impressive article.. I am a great follower of you in the you tube channel.
Am convinced to buy this receiver, how ever I stuck with basic setup question..

As you stated, this receiver has 9 channels of Amplification and need an external Amp to do the additional 2 channels. I have 9.1.2 set up currently (Onkyo NR 3030) and would like to replace it with this receiver.

I want to connect 9 channels of this receiver to my Surround and height channels and use an external amp (Outlaw A5000) for my Towers (B&W 683 S2). Now that, the outlaw gets 2 channels from this receiver, can I Bi AMP the towers to it (Outlaw)? If yes, any pointers to this would be greatly helpful.

Hi Akk, thanks for your compliments.

Yes if you buy a separate multi-ch amp like the Outlaw 5000, you can run the front l/r preouts of the Denon to the Outlaw and biamp. You will have to connect a Y-cable from the Denon to each of the channel pairs on the Outlaw so you can use 2 amps for each speaker. I hope this helps.

Great article.

Question:

I have the Denon 4311, all my speakers are in-ceiling. I am considering upgrading the receiver to 4K.

The 6200 looks like it might be perfect BUT here is my question.

The 6200 is figured at 140 watts per, the Denon 4200 has 125 watts per but $700 cheaper. I do not run my system loud. I have a 7.2 surround. Would there be any reason why I could not get away with 125 vs 140 watts? OR is it always better to get as much as possible under the hood?

I've noticed that denon has gone through alot of trouble mentioning the 32 akm DAC on the marantz 7010 and the x4200 but there is no mention on the 6200x anywhere should I assume they didnt get the upgrade and thats why there is no mention

The X6200W bound to have the same or better (though unlikely) DAC as the 4200, 5200 and 7010. To get the higher end DAC you will have to opt for the X7200W/WA or the AV8802.

yes but denon has not listed the DAC there using on the x6200 anywhere I've checked where they have blaitnly listed the akm 32bit DAC on the other two what refrence are you using or is this just speculation I'm stating this in a nice way by the way not aggressively

jdsmoothie at avsforum is usually well informed so if he stated that the 6200 both have the so called 32 bit AK4458VN DAC he's probably correct. The 6200 is so new that AKM or even Denon probably haven't updated their website. Speculation or not I have no idea, but the 6200 is newer than the 4200 and priced much higher. As such, I would speculate that it either has the same DAC chips as the 4200 (most likely), or something (possible 24 bit but highly unlikely) that has comparable or better specs. For those who are keen on getting the better DAC, they should go with the 7200 that has the higher end AK4490.

Power doesn't necessarily relate to loudness, think of it as giving you more head room. Kind of like driving a 2.0l car vs a 5.0l car. The 5.0l car does't mean you drive everywhere faster, but the experience is that much better

It seems like a common "problem" many of us have is that our "old" AVR's are still going strong and we have little need to buy new AVR's every year. ;)

All the new AVRs and pre-pros sure look nice.

I guess DTS:X is still not available yet because I keep on seeing the phrase "DTS:X ready" all the time now.

Yeah, I have the denon 4520 and love it, set up as dts neo x with 2 ceiling speakers for an 11.x set up, speakers are at the atmos recommendation for TF , now I really want the whole enchilada of immersive sound with 4 ceiling speakers to run a 9.2.4 array. The only way to do that without going the uber expensive datasat, trinnov, etc is to piggy back a 9 ch atmos/dts x avr/pp onto a dts neo avr to run the wides ( with an ext amp). So I'll be keeping the 4520 for the legacy dts neo for the wides , and use the 6200 for the 9.x.4.

As far as needing a new whatever, we don't really need anything home theater wise, but once you board that bus it's all about wanting not needing. We need a new waterheater when the old one busts loose, I've never had an ounce of fun in shopping for one and then getting one, but I've had tons of fun shopping and buying the next new HT toy :)
