I need some help on a reciever selection.

Here are the choices that I think would work best
Onkyo tx-nr555
Pioneer vsx-90
Denon x2200w
Denon S920W
Denon x1200w
It will be for a 5.1 system w/ two outdoor speakers. 4K ready, wifi and Bluetooth needed.
R55ti mains
Do any of these stand out :(

I had a Denon AVR-1912, my son is still cranking it up at about 8 years old now in his 7.1 system. My cousin has an AVR-S500BT, and other than needing the warranty upgrade/TSB done for the display done, loves it. Sounds pretty good too.

The AVR-X2200W has the Zone 2 you need, though it looks like you give up the 7.1 capability to reassign two channels to use it unless you use the Zone 2 pre-outs and add a 2 channel amp.

you do lose the expandibility like you get with the onkyo. You can still run 7.1 and 2ch zone two.

But if there are no plans to expand to 7.1 is the denon the superior receiver?

Down to three
Tx-nr555
AVR-x2200W
Avr-s920w
Multi zone is a tricky thing with receivers. Are you planning on using hdmi, optical, or digital coax sources in zone 2? If so, these receivers won't work. They only output analog connections to zone 2. I have a roku that I use to play music frequently that only has hdmi so that was a necessity for me. If you need that feature, check out avr-x4000 and newer as well as avr-x3100 and newer in denon. Marantz sr6009 and newer and sr7008 and newer.

It's not the connection to second zone I'm referring to, it's the connection from the source to the receiver. If you're going to use the internal amps of the receiver to power your zone 2 speakers by running speaker wires our to the deck, the receivers you have listed will only process signals connected by stereo analog (red/white) connections through the internal amp out to the deck speakers. If you want to use audio on your deck from sources that you have connected to your receiver via HDMI, coax, or optical, you need to look into one of the ones I have listed.

Ahhhhh. Got it. Thank you for clearing that up :D

99% of the time the second zone will be Bluetooth or Pandora streamed through the receiver.

I might vote Pioneer for the class D amps, but can't really go wrong with the Denons either. I like the options and menu system of my Marantz receivers and older Denon better than the over simplified Pioneer that I recently had. None are "wrong" choices though. I'd mostly go based on the deal you can find.

I doubt that, I have had no trouble with any Denon I owned including a couple that are over 10 years old.:D I also do own a Yamaha RXV-659 that's also 10 years old, no trouble either. I think Yamaha, D&M, Pioneer are all reliable, just not sure about Onkyo.

An inside industry research study done by NPD each year for AVRs for the last 8 years have had Yamaha ranked #1 for reliability. Denon slipped to #4 a few years back after their effort to increase market share through internet sellers failed along with the Bain Capitol debacle. And they saturated the market with lower priced, out-sourced AVRs losing the support the CEDIA audio specialist. In 2015, they have improved their market brand position, by merchandising their HEOS wireless products.

Just my $0.02... ;)

Source? I'd like to read this survey result summation as I'm curious to see who landed where. And how they gathered data.

In case you don't know, it seems that he's been making that point at every opportunity. I am skeptical about this "insider" thing too. I assume he has good reasons to not post his source.:D For me, outsourcing is not a reliable indicator of reliability. Toyota and Honda outsource too, that doesn't send their reliability rating to the bottom.

I just Googled NPD and see what they are. Looking at their "reports" section I could find no recent studies with such rankings of AV receivers.

Almost all consumer electronics in this nearly mass-market segment take advantage of outsourcing, subcontracting and offshoring of manufacturing and/or assembly & test. How each controls every step from design, selection of components, consistency of assembly and test, all add up to customer satisfaction.

D&M Group seems to do as good a job as any, and better than most.

Yes we did run Audyssey. Had to change a couple of audyssey's suggestion. Other than that it seems to be working well.
