Sorry if this is a stupid question ! Is there any advantage for balanced inputs in a power amp. I want to upgrade my system and would like to go with separates for the first time. It's hard to ignore those Outlaw amps ! They got 7 seven channel for 1grand that got my attention.

Thanks

When used between a preamp and an amp there is no advantage for balanced connections.

Balanced interconnects, with XLR plugs, became standard for professional use as studios and live performances often require long cable runs, and may be nearby cables carrying 120 volt AC power. This is especially true for microphones because their very low voltage signals are susceptible to noise and interference. But for home use, with shorter distances and higher signal levels, unbalanced cables with RCA plugs work well.

Thanks for the reply, that's what I thought, I mean you are going to use your preamp for signal processing, I did not see the benefit of an XLR input.

Often, the XLR connections will give you a reassuring "click" when they are seated correctly, and that is nice. They also tend to stay connected better due to that click.

But, for the general home audio use, I agree with Swerd.

A balanced interconnect system always has an advantage over a unbalanced one. For a 1 or 2 meter long cable that advantage will be too small to be audible. But for longer cables (say to active speakers) it can be audible in some situations.

Remember it's not just about the cable, it's about the interconnect system.

Balanced output stage > balanced cable > balanced input stage.

Yeah but in a small room, I don't think is worth the extra $$$ .
