Harman Kardon AVR 1700 blinking amber light

I've had my receiver for about 5 years now and picked up on sale for $199 at Best buy so figured it was pretty decent deal. I'm not the biggest fan of the menu/interface but it's done the job fine up until yesterday.

I recently moved and have been setting up my surround sound setup little by little and have had two tower speakers (Infinity Primus P363 Three-way dual 6-1/2-Inch Floorstanding Speaker) for the fronts and have got them to transmit sound by turning the sound off to the TV but with no Center it didn't sound right so I went back to sound to tv till I managed to get my Center Speaker wire run. I used to a Energy Star center I had from a surround sound system I bought together a long time ago. I finally did that last night and hooked everything and then turned sound to TV off again and started getting my surround sound but as soon as I made the Center speaker active I started noticing the sound fluctuating between the fronts/the center and then finally the receiver just turned off on it's own.

Now when I try to turn on the receiver it lights up the power light to white for about 1 second (no display) and then goes to a blinking amber light. I've tried researching the issue online but can't find anything and I've tried the reset, by holding the surround mode button for 5 seconds, and it looks like it's reset but the same issue persists.

Is the receiver done for? And if so, might I have done something with my setup to cook the receiver? It would seem odd I did the latter as I've had an assortment of speakers together on this system on and off for years and I've had no issues. Now if I did cook it then I guess I can't do much about it and would greatly appreciate some recommendations for a solid receiver that I can replace the Harman Kardon with.

I bet you had a speaker wiring short, that fried an amp and shorted the power transistors.

Yes, the receiver is done for.

Check your wiring very carefully before hooking up a new receiver.

I would look at the Denon/Marantz and Yamaha receivers and avoid the rest. Get one from the middle of the pack and avoid the bottom end. Start at mid price range.

Thanks! Not the news I was hoping for but makes sense. And now that you mentioned that I might have shorted the wires I went and looked at my speaker, I usually use banana plugs and I couldn't find them last night so I ended up hooking up the speaker without them. Upon closer inspection I over stripped the connections to the speaker and I think they ended up touching when I turned the speaker to face the front.

Thanks again for the recommendations!

Just purchased the Yamaha RX-V579 to replace the one I killed. Any thoughts on the receiver?
