Folks, I have gone and tried to order a CSL UMik 1 but to no avail. What do I need to do? Have added to the cart, as well as, the shipping. Then, it does nothing. Also tried to call them, but nobody is picking up the phone. Don't like leaving messages very much for a call back. Anyone else have this problem? Bit confused here.....LOL!!!!! :p:p:p:p Help!

Cheers,

Phil

Folks, look at what I got. Just came in yesterday. Thought that I would post a few pics for those that may be interested. Just got to learn how to use the miniDSP/REW/CSL UMik1.

Oh yeah, I picked up Hell Freezes Over on DVD and Nirvana's Nevermind on CD today. The Eagles sound really good. Listening to it now as we speak. Going to rock out with Nirvana next! More to come folks!

Alright, alright, alright. :)

That Cross Spectrum Labs calibrated my mic too. Imagine that.

I'm interested to see how this develops for you. It's sooooo nice to be able to take measurements like this. You need a stand alone spl meter. Your phone might work for that with their 85 db max spl. It's good enough to calibrate a 75 db tone into REW. I've still got my trusty RS analog job.

Keep taking the pic's as you start hooking this stuff up.

Alex, you are much further along than me. Have not even downloaded REW just yet. So much going on here. Hope to have it done Thursday. My stands will be here Friday. Lots to do on Sunday as in getting things moved around somewhat. Oh, and got to get some rest as I am certainly not getting any younger!!! ;);););)

Hey Alex, forgot to mention that I too still have my analog RS SPL meter....LOL!!!! Was a bit surprised when I found it a while back. Funny thing is, however, is that the battery was still good! That is impressive given that it had been packed up for almost 7-years! ;);););) Now I know who I can come to when I run into something that I can NOT figure out......LOL!!!!!

Well folks, ran into a few snags downloading REW. The problem was I did not have the most up to date java for some reason. Been running Windows 10 for a while now. Figured jave would have been more up to date. Anyways, updated java and REW is now downloaded. That really is the easy part. Now it is time for me to learn REW. Wish me well ans it is going to be a very long process.:eek::eek:

Folks, just learning REW and have been playing around with the Room Simulation option. Have most of it set up correctly with the exception of "room absorption". I reside in an apartment so have no idea what to use for that measurement. Any of you here have a recommendations? Just trying to be somewhat accurate. After all, it is just a simulation. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

I would leave it as .1 for ceiling and the walls. if your floor is carpeted you might want to set that between .3 and .5 depending on how thick the carpet is. Actually, your couch is against the back wall, you might be able to bounce that up to .2 or .3.

Thanks Alex. The walls are just typical apartment walls. The carpet is as about as cheap as you can find. That is a good point given that my LP is against the back wall. So, it just makes sense to bump it a bit. Will leave the carept on .1 or so. Just getting started so it will be a steep learning curve for me. But, at least I am now headed in that direction. Appreciate the info! Have a good night.

YAA is right about the floor. It also has the couch on it so figure whatever the back wall is plus 0.2

I would hit maybe 0.2 for the ceiling if it has popcorn or texture.. 0.1 for slick finished ceilings. My space has a right wall with large openings so that also gets a 0.1 or maybe 0.2 because it has a couch on it.

I want you to measure something so I can see what level you are crazy enough to test at. My vote goes to calibrating the spl meter to run some sweeps. The real question is listening position or like a foot away from your speakers. I only measured the LP. I'm like that.

Thanks Alex for the info. I am such a long ways away from measuring. It is going to be awhile before I do. Just now learning about the room simulation. Should have more time to do that maybe tomorrow afternoon. My stands come in today so have to get them put together and set-up as well. Good Lord those are heavy. Fed Ex claims 35-lbs......yeah right! More like 55 lbs.......LOL!!!! Can't get over how BIG the box is!

Cheers,

Phil

PS Alex, you know you can make the drive down to my parts and walk me through REW right? I mean, I will feed you well. I admit, it is fun learning this stuff-but it is also a slow pain-staking process....LOL!!!!

A standalone SPL meter is not needed with the UMIK-1. The calibration file from miniDSP includes a sensitivity factor which REW uses to compute SPL. When CSL does the calibration, they apparently don't have the capability to measure that specific parameter, so they exclude it from the calibration file. The solution is to paste the miniDSP-provided sensitivity factor back into the CSL calibration file per this post. For more specifics, download the document labeled "Getting Started with REW: A Step-by-Step Guide" in AustinJerry's sig.

Thanks Andy as you can see, I am just getting started here. Not even at the point yet to be ready for some readings. Taking my time and learning as I go. In fact, it may be months before I even take a reading. Using room simulator right now. Thanks for the info! it is most appreciated.

It only took me about 10 years to get my first measurements. How old are you? Like is this even doable with the time you have left? o_O
