There's a difference between what I think will build a nice system and what I am willing to spend. I'm willing to spend more than what I have spent on the current setup, but what I have now definitely satisfies me. I have made very few changes in the system recently, which means I've reached that price/performance point already. Then again, I have three sets of speakers in the living room, two of them setup :)

That sums up how I voted. I like what I have a lot but know there's much better out there which I can't afford right now with the old house needing so much updating. As I get those items crossed off the list, I'll be saving to get me into the range I voted for.

While I doubt I could ever have the kind of dedicated HT room you'll have ADGT, I did recently get an empty bedroom with 4 square walls. Actually had 2 empty rooms for a couple months, until my daughter boomeranged back. She won't be long. I put a second 5.1 "budget" system in there, the other will get renovated and treated to be a good 2 channel system room.
I only believe in 2 systems - one for "us"(family) and one for "them" (guests). :)

I just want to be in one cozy room. I don't like the idea of going to one room for music and another room for movies.

If I had 2 empty rooms, I would make one room a music/movies room and make the other a guest bedroom. Where would your daughter sleep when she comes back if both rooms are used for music and movies? :)

The question would be better served if it read, "how much are you allowed to spend" ;)

I won't ever need more than one guest room as far as I'm concerned, though I'll probably put a futon or sleeper-sofa in the second room (my future 2-channel feature room.) Both the bedrooms are on the third floor of my house (master on the second.) The second floor is my main 4 rooms. Living-dining room where my main system is, kitchen, office and master bedroom. The first floor of the house is a separate apartment that I rent out. Because it's directly over the tenant, I have to be considerate with my current 5.1 system and only play loud when she's not home.

it's going to be well separated and insulated so I can crank it up whenever I want, something I can't do with my main music-movie 5.1 system. Because I don't watch many movies I don't feel a need to create a HT room, just a really good room for quality music reproduction.

I voted for $1000-$3000. I could go more but given that I use my HT at most once a week, it didn't seem smart to spend more. I enjoy what I got, Infinity reference R163 bookshelf 5.2.2 with the dipole surrounds and R12 subs. Nobody seem to talk much about these but they are really nice speakers. Especially when crutchfield had them on a 40% close out.

I voted $10k to $20k. Love my current 3.1 system that I bought used for $5k which sold for over $10k new. But if I got a really nice bonus one year, I would sure like to try out a pair of KEF Blades.
