Hey guys, got a question. I need some help deciding on a new sub, my old one ( a cheapy MTX SW2 ) died on me. I have it narrowed down a little, I have a tight budget right now max of $300 right now, would like to be under that if possible. wasn't in the market, so I havnt been saving for one that would be really good.

heres the choices so far

JBL SUB 560 P
http://www.jbl.com/subwoofers/SUB+560P.html?cgid=subwoofers&dwvar_SUB 560P_color=Cherry#start=1

or a Dayton 1200 with the wireless kit for $200

or another suggestion if I am missing something I should be looking at

The room has tile floor, big open floor plan house, so the living room, kitchen and breakfast nook is one big ole rectangle 15 x 45 ish. the living room area is 15 by 20-25 ish (havnt actually measured)

the system right now....

Sony Bravia 65XBR850c
Marantz SR6008
Klipsch RF62 II
Klipsch RB52 (surround)
Klipsch RC52 II

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Goodness. You're not going to be able to do justice to that space with that budget, not even on the used market. Maybe you could limp on a Dayton SUB-1500 long enough to save up for a Power Sound Audio sub or similar? I wouldn't go smaller than that for that space.

+1 what rojo has said. That's a huge acoustic space and $300 isn't enough scratch to buy you something decent that will fill that volume.

yeah its a huge area, now, we are going to be building a house in about a year and a half. when that happens, I will get the proper sub for the area and not be a cheap A#! about it. Right now, I just need something to hang in there for a bit. So you would not consider the JBL 12 in a sealed box with 400 watt rms? You would suggest the 15 inch Dayton with 150 watt rms over it?

Realize that multiple subs are almost always necessary to achieve balanced sound, seat to seat. When options are limited, very powerful subwoofers can be required, especially in big rooms!

Yep, ported will offer significantly better output than sealed, and 15" will easily move more air than 12". Don't get too hung up on wattage.

As you are with low budget I would look for either Dayton sub 1500 or 2x Dayton sub 1200.

I'll give my suggestion if that's ok. BIC PL-200. Has Audioholics medium size room bassaholics rating and it's got pretty good db's at 25Hz (95 to 98 from memory.) BASH amp,12 inch driver, good sized with a rear ported enclosure. Can be had for under $300 through acousticsounddesign.com . An authorized BIC and Klipsch distributer.
