Closed Captions issue

I have a decent home theater setup with a Sony 3D Blu-ray player. I've only had this issue of not being able to disable the CC option when I play regular DVD's (never had the same problem playing Blu-rays), I can't seem to get the CC to go away, even when the menu for playing the DVD has this turned off. I have the option disabled on the TV menu too, but the CC still shows up on the screen. Any ideas why this might be happening and only with regular DVD's, and what I can try to fix it?
Thanks.

That is a new one. The problem has to be software corruption.

I would set the player back to default and then download the latest firmware. If that does not do the job, it is time for a new player.

When you say regular DVDs, are they store bought movies, or home-burned DVDs downloaded as isos from the interweb tubes..?

If downloaded, they may have the captions permanently embedded in the movie...

All store-bought, none are home-burned.
