Can I use a Sony DG510 as a power amp?

Hey, so I've got a Sony DN1030 I'm currently using to run my 7.1 in the living room. I have a TV and 2.0 setup on my porch. Long term: I'm getting a Denon X3200W to run both systems but until then, I'd like to use my old receiver as a power amp to run the speakers on the porch via line out zone 2 on my DN1030. Will this work? And if it will, what limitations will I have? The TV will be sourced via cable box that has analog outs so I don't think I'll have a problem running 2.0 stereo. But will I be able to run the 2.0 in sync with my 7.1 in the living room? Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

There's really no reason why it wouldn't work for stereo analog. Using it via preamp outs for zone 2 should not affect your main zone, though you'll have to check your manual on the DN1030 to see if it for some reason would limit you to 5.1 in the main zone when both are in use.

I just picked up some RCA cables and optical cable to try and hook all this up tonight. I will update with my results

No problem running the TV but I could not get it working for a zone 2. Any suggestions on how it should be hooked up and what selections to make

Very few receivers will pass digital to other zones, so you have to use analog. You have to check how you have zone 2 configured. Not familiar with the settings for the Sony, but you may have to tell it to use the preamp outs. On the 510 side, use one of the standard analog inputs such as CD/BD, etc...

And by only using analog then I'm limited to what sources I can play, right? So it won't work with Bluetooth or any HDMI source, correct?

If I recall correctly from the last time I set up a zone 2, that may be the case. Some sources may not get converted correctly to be sent to the zone 2 outputs. That was a few years ago and it was an Onkyo that didn't have HDMI, so not sure if it would still apply to the Sony, but chances are that may be the case.

Well that doesn't do me much good since all my sources are digital audio... haha. Another reason I need to gwt the Denon X3200, I was told by Denon and Crutchfield that it will send digital signals to zone 2 via zone 2 pre out so hopefully their not wrong.

Newer models have been adding that capability, where before it was pretty much only on the top models. Previously it was a processing and additional hardware limitation and now they've added it because it was a common "wish list" item.
