Better Sound for Computer

I've got a pair of Bowers & Wilkins MM1's on my Apple iMac. Far superior to the stock speakers on the Mac. At maximum volume the B & W's seems to lack that last 'push over the cliff' in volume. I can use Airplay to send music from iTunes to my Yamaha RX-A1020 located across the room behind me. (My studio is 505 square feet). But that way I'm hearing music from behind and ass-backwards, not as if I'm sitting in a concert hall. If I understand correctly a Yamaha A-S801 amp will provide better sound at my office computer. Is there a smaller footprint option? The computer desk is 35 x 71 inches.

I would consider getting active monitors for your computer work. You don't mention any kind of budget but these for example are really nice pair for 300$ http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000Q6EHA2/

Assuming you can fit them on your table or can get stands for them.

RX-A1020 has Zone 2 support so you could consider running some long stereo speakers cables back to your computer desk and then find any passive speakers that fit your needs. You can keep some other speakers connected to your computer so it can go beep at you when required and stream airplay to zone 2 when you want music.

I need to double-check, but I may have my zone2 terminals set to bi-amp my front main speakers. I have a separate amp to power the rear surround speakers.
