Optical Audio from PlayStation 4 no longer working :(

Greetings to all!

I have a Samsung HT-F4500 3D Blu-ray receiver. I have a PlayStation 4 connected to it via optical audio cable. I connected my PC to the receiver through a Y adapter (3.5mm in PC, red and white audio in receiver).

Since I've connected the PC to the receiver, I've lost 5.1 sound on the PlayStation. I've disconnected the PC from the receiver, but the 5.1 still doesn't work. It works fine on the Blu-ray player of the receiver, which is connected to the TV through HDMI. Unfortunately, the receiver does not have an HDMI input, otherwise I would use that to connect the PlayStation for surround sound.

The PlayStation has a few options regarding audio selection, and I've tried all of them. I know I must select bitstream as the processing choice, and either Dolby 5.1 or DTS as the mixing mode. Previously, I used DTS as it sounded slightly better.

I should mention that before the 5.1 stopped working, it would work only if I turned the receiver on prior to turning the PlayStation on.

Is there anyway I could get the 5.1 sound working again from the PlayStation to the receiver, with optical audio? Would it be possible to leave the PC connected with the Y adapter to the receiver?

Any guidance is appreciated, thank you!

:)

In this image below it shows the analog input is labeled "AUX IN" and the optical is labeled "DIGITAL AUDIO IN". In order to get sound from one source or the other does the receiver have a distinction between these two inputs, or are the bundled under the same "AUX IN"? I'm not familiar with the operation of this unit in particularly but I had considered it's a possibility the Samsung F4500 uses the same input selection for both connections meaning that the unit automatically detects which is being used. The mere presence of the analog connection to your computer may supply enough idle voltage to make the receiver think there's an analog signal present thus mitigating the optical connection all together. I suggest disconnecting the analog connection entirely, unplug the F4500 for about 30 seconds and plug it back in with the optical cable connected to the PS4 and the F4500 and see if your sound comes back.

Another tip is to look at the end of the optical cable while the other end is still connected to the PS4 while the system is on. If there's still red light coming down the fiber optic cable the error is most likely at the F4500 not the PS4.

Thanks for your reply Seth! I thought this might be the case (the receiver only recognizes one output at a time). I disconnected the PC from the aux last night for about a minute, then turned the receiver back on and voila! The surround is up and running again :)

I appreciate the help! Thanks once again

If only I had seen your post yesterday, then I could have taken credit for that. Just kidding of course.

I'm glad you got it figured out. Too bad you cannot connect both at once.
