Last MINUTE realize I need to make a choice! HELP!

I have ancient gear and just took the plunge. I forgot I was going to need a new receiver.

My screen will be a SAmsung 60", upgrading next year to minimum 70"

7.1 system, all matching Infinity Primus speakers and my sub is an HSU

I do game with a PS4 and PS3

I do love movies.

We watch a lot of TV

Music is the least necessary

Applications like Pandora, etc. are not a selling point for me

Good microphone easy setup has been good for me over the years.

PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE!!!! I have a few days before the install.

I just got a Yamaha RX-V677 but not sure AI made the right choice.. got it on sale for $379 which included ship/tax.

Thinking of the Pioneer Sc-82 on sale for $699.

What should I do? Anyone have anything else I should consider?

My friend is coming over in 2-3 days to get this done so I am in panic mode! : )

Yamaha makes good gear and the RX-V667 looks like it has pretty good capability and has pre-outs should you decide to add a separate amp later.
What is it that is causing you to second guess the 667?

As a company I would prefer to have Yamaha receiver over Pioneer personally. If that Yamaha has all the features you need then you will be fine with it.

I've owned both Yammy and Pio AVRs. Currently use Pio that replaced Yammy. Both are great!

The only item to watch out for on the upper end Pios is that some are class D amps, I'm not sure on the SC-82. And, it likely doesn't really matter anyway.

Next time I need an AVR, I'll probably go Yammy or Denon. But not because of any complaints concerning my Pio VSX-82

It's hard to stay current and just wanted to make sure this receiver doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.

I'm upgrading equipment that is 11 years old, but I was VERY happy with my Pioneer VSX1014TX and it just hit me yesterday I need HDMI outputs with my new TV and PS4.

Everything was running on separate channels on the Pioneer to the specific device- I was using just about every output- optical, composite, etc.

My concern is now that everything is going to be running through multiple HDMI inputs into the receiver but a single HDMI output to the TV, right?

I'm kind of scrambling because I thought I would try and get by with the old receiver but it became obvious that was going to limit me... so now I have to figure out all the details and was not really wanting to do the usual research on receivers - just don;t have the time before the TV is going to arrive.

Next up is which in-wall wire kit to choose and which HDMI cables to choose

If anyone can see obvious weaknesses with the Yamaha mentioned above, RX-V677 PLEASE let me know.

As for new HDMI, my current understanding is to get something above 22GB/sec transfer

As for in wall kits, I guess I will search the threads but if anyone has one worthy of mention it would be appreciated if you let me know what you have/where you got it or any other advice on the installation and new setup.

PS- MY speakers are the Infinity Primus P-362 and matching surrounds and fronts and a HSU Subwoofer

Since the AVR was something you initially "forgot", I'm guessing you are not really a hardcore audiophile. I mean, audio and audio equipment is not really a hobby. It's more of a tool. Turn 'em on... enjoy... period. Right?

If that's the case, I think you'll be real happy w/ the V677. It should give you good and reliable service for years. And for the money, I'm not sure you could do ANY better. The features this unit does not have are features you'll likely never miss. (And would be hard pressed to add w/o increasing the price.) Enjoy!

Thanks for the correction, I must have mixed up the model number.
However, it does have "AV Out" with L&R RCA outputs. Wouldn't these give main R & L signals from the pre-amp? I really don't know for sure.

Don't toss your Pioneer aside just yet, what's the big rush?

If I recall the VSX-1014 was a very good receiver it its day, the amp section was quite robust. I'm not saying the Yamaha is a slouch, it might lag a little behind in power though.

I'm not sure what question to even ask so forgive me for not searching the threads- how do I measure the total needs of my system based on all the different speakers and sub and then compare that to what the receiver has?
Is there a formula?
Like I said I am not even sure how to begin searching the threads for info on this topic so please forgive my ignorance - what terms should I be looking for /searching uner to educate myself on this topic?

The video is the yellow RCA connection. The red and white are standard audio, I just don't know to what extent they include pre-pro adjustments. I don't think they are like a tape out (which has no pre-pro alteration). I've just never had occasion to use those outputs because I have standard pre-pro outs.

Frank, you're looking for answers to questions you don't understand. And it doesn't sound like you have the time or inclination to learn. With that in mind, here is your answer:
The V677 is a very good receiver, and should suit you fine. It will support your 7.1 system and likely last a long time without problems.
