I have a new denon avr-x4100 receiver and a new pair of klipsch rf-82ii speakers and an svs sb-2000 sub..one of the tweeters blew the 2nd day I had them, so crutchfeild sends out a new one and today they both blow...!!! I called klipsch and they said the speakers were "underpowered" I called crutchfield and they tell me the receiver is putting out plenty of power and that is not the problem.?!?!?! I don't know what to do and would really appreciate some solid advice...The guy at klipsch recommended I get a external amp to boost the watts and the crutchfield crew told me the exact opposite...I am so confused by the way , the speakers are rated for 150 watts and the receiver puts out 125 watts per channel, 2 driven

I tell you what you do, you send the speakers back and demand a refund.

Klipsch was bought by Audiuovox a little while ago. Audiovox are purveyors of junk. Worse they buy up well known famous brands and turn their lines into junk. They have done it time and again.

Those of us in the know, have been anticipating that Klipsch would become a junk brand, and now it is.

This is the second report of this here in a week. I have investigated and found the horn is no longer a proper compression driver, but now a miserable cheap tweeter at the mouth of a horn with far too low a crossover point.

Unless those speakers are played very softly indeed the tweeters are bound to blow. Blowing tweeters playing rock music at any thing other then a very modest volume is now a predictable certainty.

If you buy a bigger amp, it will just blow the tweeters sooner.

Klipsch is now junk and to be absolutely avoided like everything else form Audiovox corporation.

wow,....more bad news on top bad news....I am stuck with ordering speakers from crutchfield and don't know which ones I should go with. I only use them for music listening, and thought the klipsch would be good after reading so many good reviews. I got a return order from crutchfiled and now have the rp-280f speakers coming...

TLS, do the Klipsch Premieres have compression drivers?

I can't tell because no one seems to sell the tweeter parts for that model.

However I would never buy any product that Audiovox had anything to do with. You will do no wrong considering it junk.

Crutchfield handle PSB and Monitor audio. My advice is to choose something in your price range from one of those stables, may be Focal. None of the rest I would consider.

Fully agree, I can't understand why Klipsch speakers seem to be so popular these days. I compared them side by side with Energy's, even Polks in Bestbuy years ago, and found them hard to listen to, yet Energy's been out of business and Klipsh still booming.

The Klipsch are popular (I believe) mainly as Home Theater and Rock n Roll speakers. They have an "in your face" forward sound that adds excitement to HT. If you are listening for accurate reproduction of an orchestra, they are definitely not the way to go.
Of course, much of their continued success is based on their legacy. For all I know, they may have never produced a truly accurate speaker, but certainly they have great name recognition.
I bet if you did a random survey, over 90% of the population would know the Klipsch name, while less than 10% would recognize KEF or B&W. Focal might do a little better since they have a presence in car audio.
For the guys walking off the street to buy speakers without doing the kind of research we do, name recognition is huge (and this is what Audiovox seems to specialize in milking the bucks from).

I am disappointed to hear this since I recently bought a pair of RF-82ii's (the exact speakers that blew on Nick).
At the same time, I wonder if they changed components along the way. I know ATLAudio has a pair of sister product RF-62ii's, recently added a 250WPC Emotiva XPA-2 (for use with his Denon AVR-X4000), and has been rocking out hard to Metallica! But maybe it is just a matter of time!
So far mine have done well for HT, but HT won't generally push the tweeters the way music will.

On the positive side, Nick, you should be happy this happened sooner rather than late,r so you do not have to struggle with the return/repair system/policies. Crutchfield usually does well for CS, but I'm not sure how long before they quit giving free return/exchanges.
I bought mine maybe 6 months ago, and if I blew a tweeter today, I believe they would send me to my local authorized service center (which is often a major exercise in patience!)

It is entirely possible there is something else faulty with other pieces of equipment or how they're being used that is the cause of these tweeters dying on the OP.

Just because Audiovox owns Klipsch does not inherently mean that Klipsch only makes garbage now. I could be wrong, but I believe the Palledium series Klipsch were produced after the Audiovox take over. I can't imagine a company that wants to make garbage would want such a line of products to be produced as it's quite costly.

Your receiver has plenty of power to run those speakers. I would ask how loud do you listen at? Running speakers too loud can damage them.

that makes no sense to me at all,....the receiver is putting out 125 watts per channel and the speakers 'SUPPOSEDLY" can handle 150 watts CONTINUOSLY.....someone is lying somewhere

if I turn the dam receiver wide open to full volume, then its my understanding that the speakers are only receiving 125 watts, Yet they are suppose to handle 150 watts,!!!??????? can you explain this to me please

Dude, GIVE IT UP!!! Those speakers are shiite. TLS guy told you this in your other thread. Now, quit your whining, put on your big boy pants and exchange them for one of the other three brands that TLS gut and others suggested. ...IN YOUR OTHER THREAD ON THE SAM SUBJECT!!!

Either that, or take it up with Klipsch.

You can always swap out that little tweeter right? Not sure about the RF-82 ii but Klipsch had definitely made some nice speakers in the past.

So you've turned it up to "full volume"? If you do this with most any speaker you'll blow the tweeters. It wouldn't matter if it was 20 watt receiver or a 150 watt receiver, you'll smoke the tweeters. This isn't a fault of Klipsch. You should never run the receiver cranked to max, ever.

It goes to 100 max volume and I did have it at 90 when the tweeters kicked the bucket......cant understand why they put max volume at 100 , BUT you are not to go there.......Doesn't make much sense to me AT ALL
