This sub is going for $250 on Amazon at the moment. I know that for full retail, most suggest getting SVS or one of the other ID subs, but for this price what do you think? It would be for 90% HT 10% music with a small room. Basically it would be a stop gap until I have the time to build a sub (not easy with a toddler).

I don't think $250 is a bad price for that sub. It won't dig deep, but for the price it should be able to get reasonably loud, and I think I would rather have that than one of the BIC subs that are typically recommended at that price.

Have you considered the Dayton Audio SUB-1500 from Parts Express?

That's what I was thinking too.

I saw it, but it doesn't do much for me. The klipsch has twice the wattage and its big brother the SW-115 seems to be well enough liked.

For what its worth, I am looking at the Dayton audio sub DIY kits, so one might very well end up in my living room at some point.

There is also a Definitive Tech SuperCube II for sale by me for the same price? What would be better?

HELLS NO!

Avoid at all costs.

I speak from experience, waste of money. Almost any subwoofer that uses passive radiators is a pitiful example of subwoofer.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to wattage. Twice is only 3db of output, and I suspect the larger in every way Dayton is more efficient.

Except, of course, for the Funk Audio 18.3...

Yeah, this is a pretty sweeping generalization. I will say there have been many bad subs that use passive radiators, specifically those mini-subs which have a high-excursion small driver tied to a high-wattage amp in a small cabinet with a PR or two. Passive Radiators can be used intelligently, so don't judge PR designs by bad mini-subs. Sadly it looks to me like the Deftech subs fall in the poor PR designs.

I bought the Klipsch. Figured it'll work until i either build one or buy a better one. Worse case, i like it and keep it. Price was just too low to pass up.

I didn't say all. I know there are exceptions, but not MANY. I said ALMOST ALL. ;)
