Matching Center Channel with Front speakers

I recently purchased 5.1 Yamaha RX-A55 and want to start with a 3.1 system. I was looking at SVS Ultra Bookshelves or PSB X2T Towers. Since this is pushing the limits of my budget I was wondering if using the center channel for the for series below IE SVS Prime or the PSB X1T would make a noticeable difference.
Thanks everyone.

I myself would take the center from same series to match front speakers. As it is easiest to tell differences between front and center if they are not matched and this may disturb many listeners.

If agree. The center should be from the same manufacturer/line as the right and left speakers. Barring that, it's all guesswork as to how well they will match up.

If you have questions about SVS, I'm pretty sure you can call and get guidance. They are basically an internet dealer and they tend to be more customer centric than the big players.

I 3rd the recommendation of keeping the center channel matched with the same manufacturer and series of your left/right speakers. You can't loose going either way as both manufacturers are highly regarded in the industry for making great speakers.

Thanks guys I'm going to check out the PSBs tomorrow if they sound as good as the reviews I'll wait to pull the trigger until I can get the matching center.

I have SVS prime towers, not sure if I should for the prime centers or ultra centers (ultra's center speakers use the same size speakers as the prime towers) ?

Welcome to Audioholics. You should make own topic for your question instead of jacking another topic. To answer your question I would go with same line for center unless you plan to upgrade for ultra series on other speakers as well.

Did the OP ever get back to us in which speaker he purchased?

I have not purchased a center yet, I'm still trying to figure out if I want to go with satellites or book shelf's on the sides. The prime center I have read is week, that's why I was looking into the Ultra center

In my opinion you should get the Prime center and not the Ultra center. The Prime Center is a sonic match for your Prime Towers.

For your surrounds, I don't think you can go wrong with either, amazing little speakers.

What receiver is this? I can't find a thing about it.
