Please help, I'm looking for a great reciever that can drive my Monitor Audio Silver RX8 7.1 Speakers. The two front(tower) speakers has a nominal impedance of 4ohms and the rest are 6ohms.

Don't forget that you gotta at least double your wattage to get a noticeable difference in volume. 150 vs 100 watts in insignificant even 100 vs 180 is not significant it's gotta be 200 vs 100 to really matter. Any receiver from Pioneer, Onkyo, Marantz, Denon, HK, or Yamaha should work just fine. I strongly suggest getting a 7.1 receiver since you'll typically get a more features and have the option later on to add surrounds if you so choose.

Thank you! Do you think the Onkyo TX-NR838 can do the job? I am thinking also the NAD T777 but it is too expensive. I don't know which one really works great for my speakers. I want to get the best out of it. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

That four ohm load may, or may not, be an issue. Only time will tell.

Whatever receiver you choose, make sure it has preamp outputs, at least for the front channels.

Hi markw thanks for the idea. If I use a preamp output for the 2 front speakers, can I use the marantz sr6010? Thanks.

Good question. You mean does that unit have preamp outs, right?

Yes, that receiver does have preamp outputs so you can connect external power amps to each channel if you wish. But, that's a pretty husky receive rand unless you try to shake the walls (that's the subwoofers job) you should be fine. But, please note: It's not "officially" rated for four ohm use.

Yes. Just be sure the receiver has the features you require.

While true it's quite often that power specifications from manufacturers can't be used to laterally compare real world power. I remember when the Onkyo TX-SR805 came out and it was specified to have 130 watts per channel IIRC, but on the bench it had much more power than the specifications suggested, even with all channels driven. Other receivers would specify similar power figures and on the bench perform dreadfully displaying a complete lack of dynamic headroom. That headroom loss will make a huge difference.

RX8 measured to have 90.5db efficiency so despite 4ohm ratings - it's not particularly hard speaker to power

The four ohm dip is at 160hz and it's 4.6 measured, not amp taxing fwiw

Yes it's not officially built for 4ohms but it can drive the rest of my 6ohms speaker if I'm not mistaken the only problem is my two front speakers. Can you suggest any recievers that can do the job for this please? Thanks.

Personally, I'd suggest simply get a two channel power amp and be done with it.

Thanks markw!
Remember, those preamp out jacks are insurance, not a guarantee they will be needed.

Keep in mind that it may well be up to the task itself. You probably won't need one. So, try it and if it gets hot to the touch or protection kicks in, then we'll talk.

but, I think you'll be fine.

OP you need to put your actual needed features. If I were buying a receiver I'd buy the below

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxv773bl/yamaha-rx-v773-7.2-channel-network-av-receiver-airplay/1.html

300 bucks

http://www.zzounds.com/item--CWNXLS1000

200 bucks

Now you have a legit pro amp that runs quiet with a nice receiver. Plus with the pre-outs you can easily add another XLS down the line. Just run your L-R channels off the amp.

This assumes that receiver has all the features you need of course.

If that receiver has the features he needs it might be enough for the speakers without the amp as well. Yamaha usually holds their own.

I think a $500 brand new Denon X3100 (MSRP $1000) from Amazon would be peachy.

Please help! I bought a Mcintosh mc7100 for my Monitor Audio Silver RX8 for 2 tower speakers which is rated 4ohms at 175watts rms but this power amp is only rated 150watts for 4ohms. Do you think this amp can drive my speakers without any problems? Thanks!
Pulled the quote from another thread so it can be discussed here.

That amplifier should have plenty headroom to drive those speakers. While it does kind of go against the advise given to you in this thread I don't believe you'll be disappointed. I've heard amplifiers of lower published specifications that have more "true power" than others that are rated higher. McIntosh typically underrates their amplifiers, should sound sweet.

Thanks for your help seth=L and now I'm still reviewing the Yamaha 773 that was posted by Isiberian I wonder why the company discontinued that. I'm all set for my 2 towers speakers. I appreciate all your advice and help.

They replaced it with a newer model, they do this 1-2 times a year.

The RX-V773 and McIntosh MC7100 would make a fine combo, now go out and get that receiver and start enjoying yourself. :)

Hi! It's me again. I have a question for setting up my speakers. Do I need to configure my speakers into "small" for my 2 tower speakers that connected to my mc7100 mcintosh power amp when I connect my sub woofer in my AV Reciver? Thanks in advance.
