Klipsch KG 3.2 - are they worth it?!

I am completely new to this site and to audio as a whole. I am wanting to build a decent 5.1 surround setup without completely breaking the bank. I came across a pair of Klipsch KG3.2 speakers with stands and the KG2.2v center speaker all for $100. I know older klipsch speakers were well made and pretty good quality. I know a DJ friend that said these speakers seem like a good deal. Wanted to get the opinion of others. Does $100 seem worth it for these. If they are in good condition would they make for good front speakers in a smaller surround sound setup? Thanks guys!

Also if you could recommend a good "budget friendly" subwoofer id appreciate it.

If they are in good shape, YES, that is a very good deal! Those are very powerful speakers that sound nice too. I wouldn't wait to jump on that deal if you are looking for a nice affordable Hi-fi system! You won't do better.

I'm confused... the KG 3.2 is a floor speaker, what kind of stands do they have?

But yes, that's a good deal. I'd buy them for that and I don't need any speakers right now.

No, that's never going to work. They're old horrible speakers but I think I may be able to salvage a couple of parts out of them.

I will do you a big favor and give them about what you paid for them and take away the offending matter.

Klipsch loudspeakers have a distinctive personality that is not for everyone, but is remarkably consistent. It kind of boils down to "if you like one you probably will like them all, and vice versa" so I would simply suggest you audition a pair of similar Klipsch speakers and decide if they sound OK to you; if they do, you can probably buy used Klipsch speakers sight-unseen.

That is beside the point others here are making, which is this particular deal is almost impossible to lose on, since even if you hate them, you can probably resell them at a profit if necessary.

The products themselves offer good value and in my opinion make good candidates for Home Theatre and particularly good options for the front 3 (Left, Right, and Centre).

Don't let detractors put you off the horn loaded technology Klipsch actively promotes; they have put enormous resources in their unique designs and have developed horn-loaded drivers almost single-handedly and to good effect.

They sound pretty nice so far and definitely make the room loom good! Just gotta figure out what to do with the center speaker. Too big for under my TV lol

Too big for under the TV? It looks like the TV pedestal is small enough you could set the center right under it. :D

Nice buy. As I said, I would have bought them no questions asked at that price. My dad has a set of those (has had for years) and I always thought they sounded good despite the smallish room they were in.

Hard to tell by the angle of the pic but the center speaker is too high and blocks part of the TV if I put it up on the TV stand. I picked up a klipsch r12sw subwoofer just to test out and it definitely adds a lot of bass but I kinda wanna see if I can find a high quality used sub for a little less. This one was about $450

Is there any reason you couldn't put your TV up on the wall? There's all kinds on mounts available for pretty cheap from Monoprice and I'm getting an extension type to move my TV out from the wall so it's nearly flush with my KEF R500's.

My speakers to the sides can't go back against the wall far enough so moving the TV out solves my problem, eloquently. :)

another thing you can't see in the pic lol. There is a window to my 3 season porch right behind the TV so I can't mount the TV there either. Only option really is to buy a shorter center channel.

Ah...And I had a hunch that was the case. I feel your pain in having to suffer limited options on system placement. In my space I have a wall with doors in each corner, severely limiting how far apart my left-right mains can be from each other. That's a big part of why I sought out the dispersion characteristics of KEF's UniQ system. The constrained space also limits placement of the sub, forcing those L-R speakers away from the wall a bit.

At least I have a solid wall for mounting the TV and can extend it out, up or down as needed. We all have our cross to bear. o_O

Shall I assume hanging it from the ceiling is not an option?

What do you have for a sub. I've read so many mixed things on subwoofers. I've read articles from professional audiophiles that buying a sub under $500 is not worth it and you really need to spend $600-$1000 or more for a well performing one. While I've read other audiophiles giving good reviews to subs in the $200-$400 range.

LOL...I spent under $500 for one. Actually, 1 dollar under $500, for an SVS SB1000. It's SO compact for what it delivers, and perfect for my preferred listening of (mostly) pop/rock music.

The SB1000 delivers what I'm more than happy to have!

I was hoping I could find an older used high quality sub for maybe around $200. I'll probably keep my eyes peeled and just keep testing a bunch of others in the meantime. Gotta love return policies without a restocking fee. I picked up the klipsch r12sw yesterday for $450, I'll hafta try the SVS sb1000 next. I heard good things about it.

It's hard to tell from the pic.

But, how about putting the center on the AV stand, then the TV sits on top of the center.

Not ideal, even if it works, but maybe sound better.

I tried that and the TV was a little bit wobbly lol. Doesn't fit perfectly on it.

Well, while the current piece that the TV sits on is a reasonably attractive piece of furniture perhaps that's the one piece that should be exchanged for something that works in your situation? You should be able to find something of comparable style but in a different configuration which will accept a taller center speaker.

Or have we already beat that dead horse? ;)
