info please what is feed to presece speakers

Hi all

just setting up in old theatre room had the Yamaha 3030 for ages not used it much

just testing my part set up work in progress out screen size 110 inches diag there is room for front height speakers which I feel I may need as my front speakers are old mission elan34 so only 4 feet high
so I think I may need to add some height to the setup so if I open up the amps in the Yamaha it can drive front presence speakers could anyone please advise on what is feed to these speakers and would it help to fill the poss void at height

Is your 3030 the RX-A3030? Not sure this one has been out for "ages". But if that is what you have, the front presence speakers would be connected here:

Within the configuration menu of your AVR you can setup this output to be Front Presence.

The fact that your Front Left/Right speakers are 4' high has nothing to do with it. You will find that VERY LITTLE sound is sent specifically to Front Presence speakers. Try to mount your Center speaker as close to the bottom of the TV as possible. Then I would put extra money toward a subwoofer or new Left/Right speakers before I worried about Presence speakers.

yes its the RXA 3030
I am connected to those outputs and was shocked at how much it filled in the void for the screen my centre is right under screen also running 2 subs and sides and rears and was pleased it would run all those and have all speakers set to 80 hz its starting to sound fair I take it the with all running it a Yamaha mix from 7.1 and splitting signal to front presence am I correct ?

Hmmm... not sure what you're asking. Your 3030 has 9 amplifiers in it. You can run 7.1 AND add 2 Front Presence speakers without a separate amp.

The subwoofers have their own amps, so don't use one in the Yamaha. Not counting your subs, you are using 7 channels, (Left, Center, Right, Left Surround, Right Surround, Left Rear Surround, Right Rear Surround). So you are only using 7 of the 9 amps in your 3030. When you add L & R Presence, you are adding 2 more channels for a total of 9. Your 3030 can drive all of them fine.

You say you hooked them up and it sounds great. So what is your question?

So if the decode is 7.1 to get 9.2 it phases from other channels.

According to Dolby, non-directional ambient effects such as rain and wind are mapped to the height channels.[1] This is similar to what is mapped to rear surround channels."

Most TV/Movies are provided in 5.1. Only a few Blurays are in 7.1. The source scheme is usually printed on the disc jacket. So if the source is 5.1, any additional channels/speakers you have are artificially manufactured in your AVR.
