so new here not had time to do an Avatar
ok what is the view here on joining cables I always thought that with cables ie speaker that the best way was to use one length from amp to speaker I am updating my very old install which is that way installed

I see from a lot of pics that a lot cables seemed to be terminated at a face plate on skirting and a extra piece of cable goes from speaker to plate is there any loss of quality doing it this way

Not a problem When you have installations done by professionals and they run cables in wall, there is no other clean option.

Also, the length doesn't really matter. You can run a 6' cable to the Left speaker and a 10' to the Right speaker. Or 20' to the Left surround and 30' to the Right surround. The signal travels soooo fast, your ears can't tell the difference. AND, if you use the Audyssey or YPAO in your AVR for setup, it will automatically compensate for any delay caused by unequal cable length.

thanks for the reply's when I did install years ago I fitted cables in the wall and ran out of skirking direct to speakers and such so no joints I have had a Yamaha 3030 for ages but as updating room just getting round to using it so will do a test with YPAO to see what setting it uses I feel like a duck out of water at moment as so out of date but found the guys from here on utube and great info from them on there also tons on here from all you guys

No doubt that works (I've done it too) but if someone pays for a professinal install today, they expect more than wires running out of a hole in the wall.

it was just years ago they always used to say no joints per say as could cause loss of quality to the speakers I just wondered does that rule still apply or have they found it does not if favour of fitting

The rule still applies in theory but in practice the amount of loss involved is so miniscule that, when done properly, is way below the threshold of anything to be worried about.

LOL....And if I could ever notice the difference in sound quality of single length wires over a couple of connections with the noise of my spouse, the clatter in the kitchen, the traffic outside and all the other impingements, I'd perhaps find value in the $14,999 interconnect cables.
