The new bang and olufsen beolab 90 costs $40k. If i were living in a penthouse on lake shore drive, with my living room overlooking lake michigan, i would probably put these in the living room .....or may be not...

Most likely as usual with B & O: - High on weird aesthetic and price, low on performance.

That price is $39K EACH, by the way.

B&O has always pursued omnidirectional speakers. Never heard a pair though.

I don't think these are omnis nor even quasi-omnis.

My understanding is that B&O has developed an algorithm that modifies the signal going to the side-firing drivers in time, phase, and amplitude, all with respect to frequency, to deliberately shape the radiation pattern. I'm pretty sure the goal is a fairly narrow, uniform pattern down to 100 Hz or lower. Doing an omni would be a piece of cake in comparison.

Seriously, is there a movie or something that has an alien or space ship that looks kind of like that where it articulates?

Maybe it is just the Escher-esque character of the silver trim.

So some marketing analyst a B&O said, "Hey, people are buying a dozen speakers for just one room now! Lets give them a speaker that shoots sound as accurately as a storm trooper and call it 'Convenience'".

Those 8T's are looking mighty tempting....
