I really just wanted to see Kate Blanchette do her thing as the stepmother and I was delighted frequently. The stepsisters were no slouches entertainment value wise. Good special effects ... I guess.

... and some of the dresses were real nice.

Hey Alex, Does this flick closely follow the Disney receipe or is it more like Maleficent which I thought was great twist on a Disney favourite

I disliked the Maleficent twist, though I still enjoyed the movie. I don't mind it when a film departs from the "original" story, but Maleficent felt very opinionated to me. This one is on my list to watch, but that list is very long right now

You give me too much credit. I don't really know the Disney formula nor the original story that well. I'm a guy. I did however enjoy Maleficent.
