Hi I have had a Quad QSP power Amp which is based in the 606/909 models and use the Elite pre amp with it! Within a few months of owning it I've noticed a real exentuated tin on vocals and when I turn the amp off a couple of seconds of low distortion! When I turn the amp on there's also a low volumes crackle from speakers! Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

Unfortunately Quad have been owned for some time by the Chinese International Audio Group. Manufacture is now in China and as usual is degraded. I'm afraid the glory days in Huntingdon are now long gone.

This amp is known for power supply problems which is what I expect is the problem with your amp.

Unfortunately because of these kinds of issues there is no longer a Quad US agent and so service will be difficult for you.

The QSP is based on the 909, but as you have found out mucked up by the Chinese.

I have a good relationship with the Quad service department, which is still in Huntingdon. I have service manuals for just about everything up to the Chinese takeover. It seems to me that the QSP has significant differences form the 909.

If you want I will see if I can get a service manual for the QSC. If I can, I would be prepared to look at it for you.

I suspect that in addition to repair the unit may well need some modifications to make it a unit worthy to carry the Quad name. I have heard that in addition to serious design problems in the power supply, these units have woefully inadequate speaker protection.

Your other alternative is to watch for a 909 made in Huntingdon coming up for sale. Avoid a made in China one were the ground plain of those units apparently varies by the day of the week.
