Just ordered a Cooler

I just ordered this cooler. Been a bit concerned about the Onkyo, it has shut down a few times (but fires right back up) lately. Need to take lid off to inspect and clean. So is canned air okay for this? And the fans should draw the air out correct? Thanks.

Live Long and Prosper Onkyo

Yes, fans should draw air out. In doing that, cool air will be drawn into the receiver from underneath it. It just gives a helping hand to the convection cooling.

Let us know how it works, I think my receiver could benefit from something like this.

That looks like it should work well. I have a 200mm fan sitting on top of my onkyo and it keeps it nice and cool. It's not in any sort of enclosure though. Very easy to stick a finger in the fan :D

This receiver is on top of my computer sub, under the desk and next to my legs. Sometimes I check how hot it is down there and accidentally poking the fan :(

I don't have anything cooling my yamaha receiver in the regular HT system. I might buy a fan for that at some point but I've never had any issues with it. The onkyo would regularly shut itself in the past. No issues since getting the fan.

I have ALWAYS kept the Onkyo on top, by its self, but still gets HOT! But its always pushing a LOT of fun.

No problem just don't want the problem to escalate + 3 more years of warranty. Let us know how it goes.

I put in my Serial # and [x] Loss of sound experienced on all channels (although it does not have, that or any of the issues stated as far as I know) - It states that it is eligible for repair. But if its not having the issues stated, I'm not sure if there is any point. ? They may track down something else perhaps that I would then be charged for, which isnt a bad thing I suppose. Thoughts?

It does not matter they will repair whatever is wrong from what I read. If I were you I would just put in a note with what the problems is/are. I'm pretty sure it's going to lead to some other problems if not repaired, so best to be safe than sorry. They also clean the inside too from the stuff I've read. They won't charge you. The only thing is you MAY pay for is shipping and It's shipped back for free. You can always call customer service and ask for a technician before you do anything.

I have been using these for my notebooks. Unless the cooler you bought has a thermostat, it looks like the same thing except laptop coolers are not so specialized (and less pricey). The one you linked does look sturdier, but unless you plan to stack gear on top, I don't think I'd pay for the structural capability.
I have found the larger fans like this one move more air more quietly.
Amazon offers a tremendous selection of these, but Thermaltake is a well established manufacturer of PC cooling gear.
