I have my samsung hd television, my satellitebox and Denon Blue Ray dvd player connected to my Denon AVR-4306 by HDMI.

I have image and sound on all components. However, when watching tv the signal drops for a view secconds and I loose image and sound. After a view secconds it appears again.

I am certain the Denon AVR-4306 causes the problem (like some switching problem).

Does anyone have the same problem and knows how to solve it?
It is kind off irritating :-(
Having all these expensive components and than have a silly issue like this!

Just to be certain it is not a simple issue, the receiver will drop out in a protection mode anytime there is a change in the signal going to it. For example, if I turn off the TV, I lose audio for a couple of seconds even though the TV has nothing to do with my audio feed (it is just an HDMI output on my receiver).
Double check that you don't have a component that would go into a sleep mode or something.
Also make sure your cables are seated well.
I think it has to be that protection circuit (whether it is working properly or malfunctioning is TBD).
Kind of strange to lose it and it come back on its own.
Does it only happen once (per listening session)?

It happend when we are watching television (satellite box).
We are watching a program, than all of a sudden the image is gone, sound as well.
A short period, black tv screen with message hdmi and the resolution...and than the image and sound return again.
Sometimes a view times per program.

Seriously, I have no life.
Does this just happen with your satellite box?

This is not a protection issue, it is an HDMI handshake issue.

An AVR unlike a TV has to make repeated hand shakes. This is done via HDCP codes.

Satellite box manufacturers are notorious for not getting HDCP certification to save money. This makes them very prone to these types of problems.

If you are having this issue with multiple HDMI sources, then your HDMI board is on the way out.

This is a very expensive repair and often not worth the cost.

We have had this problem with the satellitebox only.

The Denon blue ray dvd / cd player doesn't have this problem (at least, it has not happened during watching dvd's or listening to cd's).

Then you need to contact your satellite vendor for an updated box.

The signal loss problem is now noticed while watching a dvd or listening to a cd.
Denon avr-4306 keeps losing signal.

Is this something that a firmware update will solve, or does this mean that the HDMI board is broken?

I see that AVR is now 10 years old. I see it does not support 1080p, only 1080i.

I suspect the AVR does have a failing HDMI board.

However, make sure your components are set to output 1080i and not 1080p.

The last firmware update for that receiver was 2007 and is no longer available. Denon no longer offer support for that AVR.

You might try setting the receiver to factory default. However this might set the firmware back to 2006 and I note the 2007 firmware was largely designed to fix HDMI issues.

I think you receiver is at the end of the road and past its sell by date.

The life of an AVR is about 7 years or so, and yours is beyond that.

My advice is to send that unit to the recycling center and get a new one. Avoid low end budget receivers, they are pretty much junk. Do not go below the mid price point of a range.

Look at Denon, Marantz and Yamaha, and avoid the rest.
