DO I MODIFY A MCINTOSH 7270?

I own a McIntosh 7270.
If you are familiar with this amplifier you know of the small terminal blocks used for speaker output.
I am considering replacing them with banana jack outputs.
What are your thoughts.

What is your objective? Generally there is no advantage to having banana jacks unless you’re plugging in and unplugging speakers all the time.

This is a tricky one. Upgrading will make it nicer / better, but you certainly don't want to do anything that may hurt the resell value on a Mc.

If it's an MC-7270 with barrier strip connections on the rear, there is no benefit in installing binding posts. It won't sound or perform any better than it does now- they used those because they work well, not because they look better when the rear is hidden, anyway.

My reasoning was that it is difficult to connect 14 gauge wire to a crimp terminal that will easily fit on these barrier strips. I've owned this amplifier for over 25 years and just thought I might improve the connection points. Still in a quandary though.
This amplifier powers GoldenEar Triton Two's.

Leave the amp alone, and solder spades onto the speaker wires. That is the best connection ever, and better than plugs.

Do what TLSGuy says. As for your obvious upgradesis itch - maybe it's time to consider upgrading your towers to something better, like Dennis Murphy's Philharmonic 3 Towers (or slims if space is at premium)
