Hey guys, I need some serious help. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I recently decided to upgrade my entire system. I decided on the Denon AVR-X4000 and the EMP R55Ti towers, R55Wi surrounds, and R5Ci center, along with the Reaction Audio Echo 18. I finally have all the pieces and the system is just not loud AT ALL. I am talking 85-90 decibels when the volume is at 80...and the sub is all but inaudible. I don't know what it could be. I have run Audyssey multiple times. My friend has a system that is WAYYYY louder at half the volume(Onkyo receiver, Speaker Craft speakers!!) Any help is greatly appreciated. I am desperate!!

You mentioned the sub being very quiet - does it sound fine when you run Audyssey? If so, check to see if your speakers are set to "large." If they are, try setting them to "small" with an initial crossover of 80Hz for now. If they were all set to large, then that should get the sub working and should make everything sound louder to you.

When running Audyssey it gives out a low rumble when it's turn comes up....so more than what it does normally. When music or tv is playing, you literally can't hear the sub at all and when I go over and take grill off and feel speaker, it is barely doing anything. So, I will give this a try when I get home. Thank you for the quick response!!

i am planning for a similar setup with Denon X4000, R55ti, R56Ci center and HSU VTF-2 MK4 sub (Which i believe is weaker than Reaction Audio Echo 18). I am not planning for surrounds as well.

If you say the volume is low, it scares me.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I gotta ask.
The speakers are 6 Ohms and Receiver is 8 Ohms.. other than stressing the AV receiver, can it create any other issues like low volume?

Wycked304, please let me know if you were able to resolve it.

It sounds as though you need to read the receiver's manual or call Denon with setup help. Some receivers like the Onky I have needs to select, in my case "double bass" so the lows go to the LFE(sub) with a 2 ch source like a TV or CD or even some Dolby digital titles.

I'm practically your neighbor, and am currently borrowing an X4000. The receiver is more than capable of driving those speakers.

So the issue is either the way it was wired (possible reversed polarity, or stray wire strands) or a defective receiver. (unlikely)

The sub issue could simply be in the receiver settings:
Check Setup Menu > Speakers > Manual Setup > Bass > Set Subwoofer Mode to LFE+Main (and then check the volume control on the sub)

No need to worry, the gear is all good and will do the job. The X4000 will do a fine job with those speakers.
Most likely it is setup (modern receivers have lots of ways to set them up wrong).
