Quick help needed

I bought an open box Marantz sr5009 and ordered remote from Marantz.

Remote just arrived and does not seem to work...do you know if remote is supposed to light up? It is not....I have tried 2 sets of batteries and looked for light through camera lens.

Found manual online...yes its supposed to light up....this is becoming a hell gig already

Out of curiosity, why would you go with an OEM remote instead of an all in one?

The store threw in a cheap universal remote and it did not work. So now I'm up to 2 non-working remotes...please see hell gig comment above. I wanted absolutely the best chance for a working remote.

You should be able to get Marantz to replace the one you just ordered from them.
In regard to the cheap universal, can you still return the whole open box deal and get another one?
If not, then you are going to have to wait for the Marantz replacement (remote), or buy another universal to try. If the replacements still don't work, the AVR itself could be the problem too.

For sure Peng. I'm currently debating whether I want to wait for another from Marantz or buy a better quality universal....I just am concerned the universal will not be able to help in every aspect of my setup process.

Could be the receiver remote signal itself. Maybe Marantz can provide a way to see if it's in working order. I know you can check a remote with a phone camera, but not sure the other way around.

Good point afterlife but I did check with my camera lens and no visible signal plus the remote itself does not light up as it should when you press a button so i'm fairly sure I need to get another remote. I tried 3 different sets of fresh batteries too.

Well here we are on EFFED up remote number 3....Logitec Harmony 650 universal wont sync past 99 percent...shoot me....shoot me now.
