Hi,
WARNING: LONG POST.
Up until yesterday I was sure I was gonna buy the MicroLab SOLO6C. The reviews are great but then someone mentioned in a comment that you could build a better setup, with used parts, for the same price as a new SOLO6C.
There's a difference in the prices in the US and those in my country - Israel, and they're not consistent. Some models will only be 20% more expensive here, and others will be 3 times their US price.
I'll list prices in NIS. My budget is no more than 700-800 NIS.
1. A used Morel Omega set of speakers that has 8" woofers and a frequency range of 30hz-20khz. That's rather low for a 2.0 setup, right? Anyway, they require an amp of 10-60 watt. I do not have an amp.
They cost 300 NIS.
2. Tannoy Mercury V1. 5.1" woofer, 55hz-20khz. Gets good reviews. This one requires an amp of 10-70, but is twice as expensive as the Morel at 600 NIS.
3. MicroLab SOLO6C. 6.5" woofer, good reviews, bass doesn't go very low, I think 60hz or so, but they're powered, and new ones cost 650 NIS. Just buy them and plug them, and have fun using them.
So, is the hassle of finding an amp for options 1 and 2 worth it? Will I get better sound?
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything such as "Morel Omega", but that's what the seller calls them, so whatever. Here's what it says on the rear of those speakers:

Option 1, the Morel, are said to cost 800-900 NIs originally, but they may be very old and not sold anymore.
Option 2, the Tannoy, cost a whopping 1700 NIS new, so at 600 NIS, and being 2 years old, they could be a bargain.
So, what do you make of all this confusing info?
Remember that I'll need an amp too, for options 1 and 2. What cheap models could work?
Thanks!
