quick help: opportunity to buy Kef Q300

Hi guys,

I recently posted about a home theater setup I was working on and I stumbled upon these KEF Q300s for $400... gut feeling- should I pull the trigger? It seems like a really good price for something like these.

KEF makes a quality product. f you like their sound, go for it. Sometimes, getting speakers at a good price is paying too much if you don't like them.

I would say they are pretty decent purchase for your price even without hearing them. But if you can hear them first and like the sound go for it!

Right? Haha but it is for both of them. I made sure. I ended up pulling the trigger. Looking forward to having some higher end speakers than I anticipated I'd be able to afford. Worse comes to worse I can probably sell them for a higher price.

Just curious though... From a technical standpoint, what is the KEF q300 really known for? I've seen good reviews, but am curious to how it compares to something like the jbl studio 530. I may be comparing apples to oranges, I really don't know. That's why I'm in the audiophyte forum

Auditioning is the best way to get to know the differences in sound between speakers.

Audio stores is your best bet. If you have some local audio stores they let you to listen different speakers they have in their selection. Of course every store wont have every speaker available for auditioning but that's best way to go.

I don't believe that there are any audio stores in my direct area (Hudson valley, NY) but I can go to Westchester and I'm sure there are some there. I'm finding myself a little bit unsure of whether or not they offer demos, since most of them only advertise custom installations. Is it safe to assume that audio stores that offer custom installations also offer speaker demos? I don't want to treck to Nyack and find that they don't have what I'm looking for.

Atleast here the companies who sell speakers have possibility for auditioning as well as custom installations. If you want to save time give a call for companies you have in mind and ask them if you can get audition on speakers. You can even ask them if they carry the speakers you are interested in while you are into it.

Buying used is great if you know what you're buying but it does have it's disadvantages.

By buying new from a dealer, they usually have return/exchange policies and some ID only dealers even include free return shipping. If not, having to pay shipping is not an unreasonable price to pay for a leisurely home trial, which is the best way to go.

Do you think these would actually be better sounding? Or just better value? I'm not too worried about the kefs because if worse comes to worse I know for a fact that I can flip them for more.
