Watched this yesterday, it's a really interesting program
Is that the plane that is plagued with all kinds of problems? It will be interesting to see if the new state of the art Soviet fighter will suffer a similar fate? What's really sad about humanity as a whole that so much money is spent on things like this instead of bettering humanity, a nieve outlook I know.

Maybe my sarcasm was a bit too well hidden....
Original idea about the JSF program was to save a lot of cost ... o_O

Good grief, just the titanium structure that keeps the cockpit onto the main structure of the plane takes half a year of grinding on a state of the art CNC machine with all diamond bits .... per unit that is ....

I've not known an inexpensive jet fighter. :p

Years ago, there was a joke in Washington that the trend in spending for new weapons pointed toward a future where the entire defense budget would be spent on one very expensive airplane.

We are nearly there :D. The next generation of Joint Strike Fighters could be a joint effort between the US and Russia, with minor collaboration from Europe and China.

That program is quite controversial up here as the F-35 is supposed to replace our CF-18's, which are about 30 years old now. The cost will be astronomical and apparently it'll be a lousy dog fighter. The claim is that dogfighting is a thing of the past. But, as I understand it, that's what they said before the Vietnam War.

"We've lost INTELLIGENCE, I repeat, we have no INTELLIGENCE!"

The number of quotes from that movie that I continue to cite watching the daily news is just absurd.

And it just so puts it in perspective, GO-NAD! You're worried about the added costs for military, because of what you already pay in health care. We're worried about the cost of CARING about other peoples health!

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. Where does health care fit in this discussion? We desperately need new fighters, but our government has a very consistent track record for eff-ing up military procurement. I think we should go with the Eurofighter Typhoon - an advanced, proven design. Expensive, but cheaper than the F-35 and available now.

I think we should get the new Russian MIGs....strip out their electronics and replace it with ours but keep their avionics as there planes... nothing like getting to know the other side's weaknesses.:p

Not to worry!
Our governments will ride in on a white horse to save us all, from the problem they caused in the first place.:D All as we pay for the first problem and the fix.

Americans are quite comfortable with Trillions spent annually on defense, but balk at the idea of billions for healthcare, is all. The point is that I am envious of your healthcare, and would happily trade you an entire fleet of F-35's!

I can't speak for all Americans.
I don't like either and none of us had any say in either, no vote.
Health Care was passed in a bill very few, if any, actually read.
Passed in a bill that had to be passed 'before' we knew what was in it.
Millions couldn't keep their doctor if they liked their doctor, or keep their plan
While many US workers were unemployed, a Canadian company was used to implement the health care exchange system.

Its happened here in reverse with IT. *shrugs* Just part of the big ugly world of economics and trying to save a buck instead of doing what's right.

I don't know how much this counts for but I know two friends and one family member that has benefited greatly from the ACA.

I know zero people that have been benefited from a $400 Billion plane yet to see a day of service.

I'm sure some were helped. The true cost of that help is yet to appear, sometime down the road.
As far as how much the example counts? I guess as far as anecdotal evidence usually does.

I'm glad to see you post about anecdotal evidence and couldn't agree with you more:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/27/us/is-the-affordable-care-act-working.html?_r=0#/

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/119623/obamacare-one-year-seven-charts-show-law-working

http://www.gallup.com/opinion/thrive/172340/affordable-care-act-working.aspx?utm_source=BLOG_TB&utm_medium=topic&utm_campaign=tiles

I purposefully didn't include any .gov sites for the predictable gnashing of teeth that it would bring.

So I am still asking:How many citizens of the U.S. has a $400 billion program that doesn't have a single service worthy airframe helped?

I'd have to ask you to refer back to my post num-12
Where I said: "I can't speak for all Americans.

We don't get a lot of say in a lot of things. ACA by the #'s is a net positive.
