Pioneer VSX-522-K No Audio

About three years ago I purchased a Pioneer VSX-522-K reciever, and 5 Energy speakers, center, front left and right, and surround left and right. Since then I have had an Xbox360 and more recently an Xbox One hooked up via HDMI cable to the "GAME" HDMI in-port, and the reciever hooked up to a Samsung LCD tv via HDMI cable. With the Xbox360, I had noticed that sometimes I would not have audio when I first turned the Xbox on, but I was always able to fix that issue by simply turning both the Xbox and the reciever off, unplugging the HDMI cable from both, and plugging it back in, and that would fix it until the next time. I had no such issues with my Xbox One, and since the day I bought it and hooked it up, I have had no audio issues with it until about two nights ago, when I noticed every once in a while, the audio would cut out for a split second. The next night, (last night) I turned it on and there was no audio what so ever, except for every once in a while I would get split second burst of audio, and now I am not even getting that but I still have video. I have tried swapping HDMI cables and HDMI in-ports on the reciever to no effect, and at first I thought the HDMI out-port on the Xbox One was damaged as the cable seems to sit very loose inside it, but when I plug the Xbox360 back into the reciever, I still get no audio, yet when I plug either game console direct to the tv via HDMI cable, I have both video and audio for both consoles. Next I attempted to plug my Samsung S3 phone into the reciever via an AV audio cable plugged into the "CD" audio ports, and got no audio at all while playing music on my phone, until playimg around with the settings I selected the "Pure Direct" setting when pressing the "Auto Surround/Stream Direct" button on the face of the reciever, so I was able to hear music from my phone yet still no audio from either game console. In the audio settings for the Xbox One, I have tried every audio setting, and currently have it set to HDMI 5.1 uncompressed. Any help would appreciated, thank you.

Time again and again....we need to get Gene to set up a sticky for "Pio Elite No Audio".

Look for a "Signal Select Button" on your remote and push it a few time to cycle through the options. Probably something like "Analog, Digital, Auto". It is very likely that you accidentally hit that button, you are feeding the AVR a digi signal via HDMI, but you accidentally hit that button and told the AVR that it should be playing an analog signal.

The first time it happened to me, it took a long time to figure out what happened.

Most likely what happened, while I was at work my sister was mucking around with it randomly hitting buttons. Pressing "Signal Select" doesn't seem to be making a difference, "Playback MP3 Music File IPOD Digital Playback MCACC Easy Setup Ideal Sound Field HDMI 3D Ready Game USB" keeps flashing and scrolling from right to left on the reciever display no matter how many times I press the button.

Also, when I plug my phone in to play music on the input setting "CD," it now only works when set to "Pure Direct" and the audio skips out for a split second every five seconds or so.

I think the processor board has been failing and may be the HDMI board also.

Not worth the cost of repair. It is new receiver time.

Pioneer and Onkyo receivers seem problem children.

It seems your choices are Denon, Marantz or Yamaha for receivers. There are financial problems for Denon/Marantz under Bain Capital and I don't know how long it will be before that affects quality. I would not be surprised to see Yamaha the last man standing in the receiver market.

Avoid cheap end receivers. You need to be at the mid point of a range at least to avoid these kind of problems, even then there is no guarantee.

A receiver is a very complex product and it my view are designed and built to a far too low a price point.

Pioneer and Onkyo receivers seem problem children.

Never a problem on my Pio Elite AVR. Granted, it is about 8 years old, so I can't say how much Pio has changed since then.

I will say that my next AVR will almost certainly be back to Yammy or maybe Denon for the first time.
