Anybody else notice some of the trash talk that users on some of the other A/V forums spew about Audioholics? I seriously don't understand it. IMO, Gene and the rest of the Audioholics team have been nothing but informative and spot on. I've actually based some of my purchasing decisions on their reviews and have not only never been mislead, but I've found that my results always mirror theirs.

So, why the hate? Is it just your typical internet rivalry? People just being jerks? I don't get it.

What forums would these be? I've seen links to some articles on this forum on some others.

Not sure what hate you're referring to, but we don't really treat trolls well around these parts.
Also folks who don't listen to voice of hard cold science and attempt to spread lies.

You gotta understand than we have more than few of active members, who are past their 50s and 60s, which are often VERY knowledgeable and experienced gentleman but also sometimes grumpy and a bit less tolerant of fools.

Audioholics does not pander to snake oil peddling brands/technologies/people. It is grounded in audio engineering and science.

The forum advice is fact based. Audiophiles who can't back up their claims get summarily dismissed. People with an agenda get called out. Fanboys for snake oil peddlers get branded as trolls and are shamed.

The attitude does not play well with folk looking to confirm their biases or make unsubstantiated claims. The resulting vitriol is a symptom of their immaturity.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't convince them cable risers don't do anything.

Seriously, I have no life.
You don't expect them to listen to reason, do you?

Go to Audio Karma and read about the love they have for crap that was crap in the '70s, '80s and '90s. They seem to think the Sun rises and sets with Technics speakers & receivers, Realistic, Teac cassette decks that weren't Tascam duplicates (like the A-103), Pioneer SX-424 and other stuff. I had an SX-525 and at 1%, it put out a ground-pounding 13W/ch. It was truly impressive.

Had a decent tuner though, and my mom thought the blue lights were pretty. That has to count for something.

If this forum is badmouthed on other forums, I don't care. Most of them, I don't read.

A few of them, such as AVS, can be both full of good information and full of opinions based on misinformation, or just too much attitude. Someone once asked my why I don't post there often, because there are many more readers. The "signal-to-noise ratio" at AVS is very low, especially in the DIY section.

However, it can liven up things around here (sometimes) if an adventurous audiophile comes here looking to count coup by trolling among the non-believers.

Human nature is human nature - you can find good information at
different places. However, there are times you need to eat the fish
and spit out the bones. Some forums have more bones than others.

Audioholics is good, or this 65 year old man would leave.

Now the question is, what was I listening to in the earlier years - mercy,
do I remember?:)

There are bad apples on every forum. On top of that the forum owners/mods/etc at some places... have a financial stake in the opinions they peddle as fact.

Only thing I have seen this site get dinged for lately is all these "previews" they put out and never "review" the product. Click bait I guess, but doesn't other me. I prefer the reviews here and sound and vision over the poor reviews at AVS and the obviously sponsored reviews at HTS.

I'm no expert, but I have owned enough HT gear and brands to realize who the BS'ers are...

So, why the hate?
Various reasons depending on who's doing the hating. Gene's tendency to call BS where he sees it has made a few enemies over the years to be sure. A recent example of this was related AH's coverage of Dolby's Atmos-enabled speakers. Articles like this one generated a lot of heat over at AVS.

Then there's also the folks that get kicked out of here. They almost always have some sob story about how they were unjustly booted and why AH sucks as a result.

The hate at AVS used to bother me but now I use it as opportunity to generate new content such as this YouTube video :)

Great replies, everybody. The things you mentioned in your backlash video are exactly what I'm talking about. I did get a kick out of that video, though. Guess all we can do is brush off the haters.

Keep up the good work and HONEST reviews! Unlike some of the major reviewers out there, I can always count on Audioholics for accurate information. Like I said, I've never been lead astray so that's why I just didn't get where the haters were coming from. Glad to know their distaste for AH is pretty much unfounded.

Haters never prosper, they just troll along. I call them, internet bullies with a need for a bottle to feed their ego. .
