Hello Gene, can you clarify a couple of things please ? You said for multi channel listening you don't recommend setting the crossover much lower than 80hz , other wise you could truncate the LFE going to the sub ? 90percent of my listening is in the (straight mode ) with Pandora thru my Sonos app. Otherwise I listen thru a musical fidelity nuvista 3d CD player . Once in a while I use the Yamaha DSP modes like the Roxy Theatre, so would you think 80hz would be the best place to put the crossover ? Thank you Gene.

I'm not 100% sure if the Z9 will truncate LFE. Some AVR's had a fixed 120Hz setting for that so unless I was able to test it with my AP, I couldn't tell you. It's been a long time since I reviewed that unit.

LFE is only relevant in a discrete 5.1 Dolby/DTS movie. There is no LFE for 2CH sources or when you use the DSP processing to make 2CH into a multi-channel source.

I think you should try the various crossover settings to see what blends best with your sub/mains using an SPL meter and test tones to start if you don't have an RTA, and bass heavy music to compare after you're all calibrated.

Ok thank you for taking the time to respond. I will experiment with the sub crossed over at 60 and 80 Hz, I have tried 40 hz and did not like that at all. I have heard people say they have heard dialogue in the sub at 80hz, I just thought that can't be can it ? I would think something else has to be going on there. Does any voice go down to 80HZ ? I was looking at my center RC -64ii and It goes down to 59 hZ, so do you think sending that a 60hz signal would be too much? Same with the surrounds those are 50 hz, so I thought both the surrounds and center might be better at 80HZ? Again thank you for responding and have a great 4th of July Gene.

Not possible to hear vocals at 80Hz with a 24dB/oct LPF. 40Hz is too low and a waste of the sub. I'd stick between 60-80Hz if I were you.

When you use the auto set up on any of these receivers do you recommend setting the bass and treble controls to be flat ?
